Péricles (cartoonist)
Péricles de Andrade Maranhão (August 14, 1924 - December 31, 1961), who signed only as Péricles, was a Brazilian cartoonist and caricaturist. He moved to Rio de Janeiro around 1942, starting to work in Diários Associados magazines, where he published his first characters. Péricles also illustrated Millôr Fernandes' texts in the Pif-Paf section of ''O Cruzeiro''. His greatest success, however, was the gag cartoon ''O Amigo da Onça'', a character he drew for nearly 20 years, from 1943 until his death. ''O Amigo da Onça'' ("The Friend of the Jaguar" in literal translation) is a cynical man whose main objective in life is to harm or tease others. The name came from a joke that has some variations, but usually involves a hunter who tells a friend how he ran away from a jaguar, but his friend doubts him or creates complicated situations, to which the hunter concludes by asking: "Are you my friend or ''friend of the jaguar''?". The Diários Associados, or Associated Dailies, are a union of Brazilian communication media created by Assis Chateaubriand. Getúlio Delphim
Getulio Delphim (born Rio de Janeiro, June 16, 1938) - sometimes Delphin or Delfin - is a Brazilian comics artist and illustrator. He began his career at the age of 15 at Rio Gráfica publishing house as a comics penciller and magazine cover designer. At 18, he was working for the publishing houses Outubro and La Selva. One of his main works was in the superhero's comic book Capitão 7. In 1970s, he stopped working only with comics, dedicating himself to advertising illustration. Brazilian comics (known in Brazilian Portuguese as ''HQs, gibis, revistinhas, historietas'', ''quadrinhos'' or ''tirinhas'') started in the 19th century, adopting a satirical style known as cartoon, charges or caricature that would later be cemented in the popular comic strips. Master of National Comics ( pt-BR, Mestre do Quadrinho Nacional) is one of the categories of Prêmio Angelo Agostini, the most traditional Brazilian award dedicated to comics that has been held since 1985 by Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP). History The "Master of National Comics" category has been part of Prêmio Angelo Agostini since its first edition, in 1985. It is aimed to reward artists who have been dedicated to Brazilian comics for at least 25 years. The four honorees of this first edition were chosen by AQC-ESP board. Galerie Lambiek is a Dutch comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam, founded on November 8, 1968 by Kees Kousemaker (, – Bussum, ), though since 2007, his son Boris Kousemaker is the current owner. From 1968 to 2015, it was located in the Kerkstraat, but in November 2015, the store moved to the Koningsstraat 27. As of 2018, Lambiek is the oldest comics store in Europe, and the oldest worldwide still in existence. The name "Lambiek" originated as a misspelling of the name of the comics character Lambik, from the popular Suske & Wiske comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen.
