Aske (album)
''Aske'' (Norwegian for ''Ashes'') is an EP by Norwegian black metal solo project Burzum. Though recorded in April and August 1992, after ''Det som engang var'', it was released before that album in March 1993, through Deathlike Silence Productions. Background The cover is a photograph of the Fantoft Stave Church after its arson on 6 June 1992. Varg Vikernes was strongly suspected of burning the church, and the photograph is widely believed to have been taken by Vikernes himself. According to the official Burzum website, the cover photograph was taken by Are Mundal. In an interview, Mundal stated that Vikernes, a longtime friend, asked him to visit the site of the church shortly after the fire and take photographs, of which one became the album cover. Mundal was initially regarded as a suspect in the arson, but was cleared of all charges. Vikernes allegedly had the photos developed in Sweden in order to fend off suspicion. Bass guitar on two of the tracks is performed by Sam ...

Borknagar (album)
''Borknagar'' is the debut studio album by the Norwegian band of the same name. It is their only album to feature lyrics in the Norwegian language and their only album to feature Roger "Infernus" Tiegs on bass guitar (who reportedly recorded all his bass parts in a single day). The album was recorded at Grieghallen Studios (frequented by other black metal bands such as Burzum, Emperor and Gorgoroth). The album features a more straightforward black/Viking metal approach (featuring heavy riffs, blasting tempos and an emphasis on harsh vocals) as opposed to the band's now trademark progressive/folk sound they would hint at on their next album, '' The Olden Domain''. Track listing Personnel ;Borknagar * Kristoffer Rygg (credited as "Garm") – vocals * Øystein G. Brun – acoustic guitar, electric guitar * Roger Tiegs (credited as "Infernus") – bass guitar * Ivar Bjørnson – keyboards * Erik Brødreskift (credited as "Grim") – drums, percussion A pe ...

Belus (album)
''Belus'' is the seventh full-length album by the Norwegian one-man band Burzum. Released on 8 March 2010 through Byelobog Productions, it is the first Burzum studio album to be recorded after a near 11-year hiatus. Background ''Belus'' was the first album to be recorded and released after Varg Vikernes' May 2009 parole from prison. He had served almost 16 years of a 21-year murder sentence. The album was originally called "The Return of Baldur", but Vikernes announced the album in November 2009 as ''Den Hvite Guden'' ("The White God" in Norwegian). In December 2009, he announced that the name was being changed to ''Belus'' because some in the media speculated that the album might have racist undertones. He stated that the former name had nothing to do with skin colour or racism, but that it was merely a common name for the Norse god Baldr. Vikernes suggests that ''Belus'' is the oldest known (Proto-Indo-European) name of the life-death-rebirth deity that is reflected in the ...

Det Som Engang Var
''Det som engang var'' (Norwegian for ''What Once Was'') is the second studio album by the Norwegian black metal solo project Burzum. It was recorded in April 1992 and released in August 1993 through Burzum's own label, Cymophane Productions. Background Varg Vikernes recorded the first four Burzum albums between January 1992 and March 1993 at the Grieg Hall in Bergen. However, the releases were spread out, with many months between the recording and the release of each album. The album was initially named ''På svarte troner'' (Norwegian for "On Black Thrones") but was renamed shortly before its release. The song "Det som en gang var" (with a slightly different spelling) would appear on the next album, '' Hvis lyset tar oss''. The album cover is visually inspired by the ''Advanced Dungeons & Dragons'' (1st edition) module ''The Temple of Elemental Evil''. At the bottom of the artwork is a depiction of the "reaper" and the tree shown on Burzum's first album. The album cover wa ...

Fallen (Burzum Album)
''Fallen'' is the eighth studio album by the Norwegian artist Burzum, released on 7 March 2011 through Byelobog Productions. The cover art is taken from the painting ''Elegy'' (1899) by French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Recording ''Fallen'' was recorded and mixed during two weeks in Grieghallen studios, using a Spector bass with alembic electronics on a Vox AC50 amp from 1965, a Ludwig drum kit (with a 26-inch kick) from 1975, a Neumann M149 microphone and stereo Schoeps CMTS 501 U microphones for vocals, an OBH Nordica Harmony 6487, a custom Stig instrument and a Peavey 23 guitar on a Peavey 6505 (120 Watt) amp. Music and lyrics According to Varg Vikernes himself, "Musically ''Fallen'' is like a cross between '' Belus'' and something new, inspired more by the debut album and ''Det som engang var'' than by '' Hvis lyset tar oss'' or '' Filosofem''. The sound is more dynamic – we mastered the album as if it was classical music – and I was more experimental than I ...

A Darker Monument
A, or a, is the first letter and the first vowel of the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''a'' (pronounced ), plural ''aes''. It is similar in shape to the Ancient Greek letter alpha, from which it derives. The uppercase version consists of the two slanting sides of a triangle, crossed in the middle by a horizontal bar. The lowercase version can be written in two forms: the double-storey a and single-storey ɑ. The latter is commonly used in handwriting and fonts based on it, especially fonts intended to be read by children, and is also found in italic type. In English grammar, " a", and its variant " an", are indefinite articles. History The earliest certain ancestor of "A" is aleph (also written 'aleph), the first letter of the Phoenician alphabet, which consisted entirely of consonants (for that reason, it is also called an abjad to distinguish it fro ...
