Vulturine Parrot
The vulturine parrot (''Pyrilia vulturina''), not to be confused with Pesquet's parrot (''Psittrichas fulgidus''), is a Neotropical parrot, which is endemic to humid forest and adjacent habitats in the eastern Amazon of Brazil. Taxonomy Until recently, it was placed in the genus '' Pionopsitta'', which now is restricted to the type species, ''P. pileata''. Furthermore, individuals previously believed to be immature vulturine parrots were described as a new species, the bald parrot (''Pyrilia aurantiocephala''), in 2002. Description The vulturine parrot has a total length of c. . It has a rather short, squarish tail, and a mainly green plumage, which typically is tinged blue, especially below. The chest is olive-brown. The underwing coverts are bright red, and when perched this can be hinted as an orange-red shoulder-patch. Bald Parrot
The bald parrot (''Pyrilia aurantiocephala'') or orange-headed parrot is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is endemic to the east-central Amazon of Brazil. Its natural habitat is tropical moist lowland forests. It is considered near threatened by BirdLife International (and consequently IUCN) due to the widespread deforestation of the Amazon. Taxonomy This parrot was initially believed to be a juvenile of the vulturine parrot due to the orange coloration of its bald head as opposed to the black of the vulturine. However, when it was discovered that the individuals were sexually mature, they were described as a new species. In reality, juveniles of both species have feathered, greenish heads quite unlike those of the adults. It was formerly placed in the genus '' Pionopsitta'', which is now monotypic. Discovery In 1999, Brazilian researchers set out to the Amazon rainforest to find specimens of the small green parrot. Subsequently, many of the researchers found sexu ...

Saffron-headed Parrot
The saffron-headed parrot (''Pyrilia pyrilia'') is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It was briefly placed in ''Gypopsitta'', but this is a junior synonym of ''Pyrilia'' and thus the saffron-headed parrot is now placed in the latter genus. It is found in Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, and possibly Ecuador. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Brown-hooded Parrot
The brown-hooded parrot (''Pyrilia haematotis'') is a small parrot which is a resident breeding species from southeastern Mexico to north-western Colombia. Until recently, it was placed in the genus ''Pionopsitta'', which now is restricted to the type species, the pileated parrot. It is sometimes considered conspecific with the rose-faced parrot (''P. pulchra''). This species has been adversely affected by deforestation. It is found in lowlands and foothills locally up to 1600 m altitude in forest canopy and edges, and adjacent semi-open woodland and second growth. The white eggs are laid in an unlined nest, usually a natural cavity in a tree. Description The brown-hooded parrot is 21 cm long and weighs 165 g. The adult has a brown head and neck, darker on the face, especially in males, and a red ear-patch. The rest of the body is mainly green, with an olive tone to the breast.
