Pyrgulina Raricostae
''Pyrgulina'' is a small genus of very small sea snails, pyramidellid gastropod mollusks or micromollusks. Varices are absent. The shell is marked with strong axial ribs which extend from the summit to the umbilical area The spiral markings consist of impressed lines. The fine, incised spiral striations are subequally spaced and present at the intercostal spaces between the sutures and on the base of the whorls. The gastropod shell is part of the body of a Gastropoda, gastropod or snail, a kind of mollusc. The shell is an exoskeleton, which protects from predators, mechanical damage, and dehydration, but also serves for muscle attachment and calcium storage. Some gastropods appear shell-less (slugs) but may have a remnant within the mantle, or in some cases the shell is reduced such that the body cannot be retracted within it (semi-slug).
