Pyotr Kuznetsov
Pyotr Kuznetsov (russian: Петр Кузнецов; born 1964) is the leader and founder of the Russian religious group, the True Russian Orthodox Church. Kuznetsov did not let his followers watch television, listen to the radio or handle money. The group has been referred to as a " Doomsday cult". Kuznetsov is a divorced architect from Belarus, who wandered all across Russia to spread his message of the impending apocalypse before settling in the village of Nikolskoye. He has been diagnosed as schizophrenic, and according to ''The Guardian'', he sleeps in a coffin. On April 3, 2008, Kuznetsov attempted suicide when he was taken to a hospital where "Officials said that he may have attempted suicide after realising his prediction had been wrong." A suicide attempt is an attempt to die by suicide that results in survival. It may be referred to as a "failed" or "unsuccessful" suicide attempt, though these terms are discouraged by mental health professionals for implying that a suicide resulting in death is a successful and positive outcome. Epidemiology In the United States, the National Institute of Mental Health reports there are 11 nonfatal suicide attempts for every suicide death. True Russian Orthodox Church
The Penza Recluses (russian: Пензенские затворники, True Russian Orthodox Church, TROC; russian: Настоящая русская православная церковь) was an Independent Russian doomsday cult founded by Pyotr Kuznetsov which borrowed some ideas from Eastern Orthodoxy. The self-name of the group was "Heavenly Jerusalem" (russian: Горний Иерусалим). This group broke away from the Russian Orthodox Church, considering it insufficiently orthodox. Its members were not allowed to eat processed food, watch television or handle money. They rejected bar codes, National identification number and passports because they contained satanic symbols ("the number of the Beast").
