Pynsent Chernock
Sir Pynsent Chernock, 3rd Baronet (before 1670 – 2 September 1734) was a Tory landowner and Member of Parliament from Bedfordshire. He became knight of the shire for the county in 1705 by a comfortable margin, but declined to contest it in the next election in 1708. Chernock subsequently sold one of his manors, perhaps to pay for his electioneering expenses. After a close election in 1713, his political career ended with a defeat in 1715. Education and family Chernock was born sometime before 1670, the eldest son of Sir Villiers Chernock, 2nd Baronet, of Holcot (Hulcote), Bedfordshire and his wife Anne Pynsent. He was educated at the Inner Temple in 1684 and admitted a fellow-commoner of Queens' College, Cambridge on 30 March 1685. Tories (British Political Party)
The Tories were a loosely organised political faction and later a political party, in the Parliaments of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. They first emerged during the 1679 Exclusion Crisis, when they opposed Whig efforts to exclude James, Duke of York from the succession on the grounds of his Catholicism. Despite their fervent opposition to state-sponsored Catholicism, Tories opposed exclusion in the belief inheritance based on birth was the foundation of a stable society. After the succession of George I in 1714, the Tories were excluded from government for nearly 50 years and ceased to exist as an organised political entity in the early 1760s, although it was used as a term of self-description by some political writers. Earl Of Bolingbroke
The title Earl of Bolingbroke has been created twice, once in the Peerage of England and once in the Jacobite Peerage. The creation in the Peerage of England occurred on 28 December 1624, when Oliver St John, 4th Baron St John of Bletso, was created Earl of Bolingbroke. His eldest son and heir apparent, Oliver St John, was in 1641 summoned to the House of Lords through a writ of acceleration in his father's junior title of Baron St John of Bletsoe. However, he predeceased his father (killed at the Battle of Edgehill in 1642); nevertheless, the writ of acceleration means that he is formally known as the fifth Baron St John of Bletsoe. The Earl was succeeded by his grandson, Oliver St John, 2nd Earl of Bolingbroke, who was the son of Sir Paulet St John, younger son of the first Earl. John Edward Cater (17 January 1932 – 21 March 2009) was an English actor. Early life John Edward Cater was born 17 January 1932 in Hendon, north London. His father, like his grandfather, was a florist. His mother was a violinist who performed with the dance trio The Piroinos. He was diagnosed with hereditary haemochromatosis, which led his body to absorb too much dietary iron, but it caused him few problems for most of his life. Cater was just four years old when he enrolled in dance school. He was attending Hendon Preparatory School when, in 1939, he and his entire class were evacuated from London to Devon. Paulet St John, 3rd Earl of Bolingbroke (23 November 1634 – 5 October 1711), known as Paulet St John until 1688, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1663 to 1685. Sir William Gostwick, 4th Baronet (21 August 1650 – 24 January 1720) was an English Whig politician who served as MP for Bedfordshire from 1698 to 1713. Early life Gostwick was baptised on 21 August 1650. He was the second, but eldest surviving, son of Sir Edward Gostwick, 3rd Baronet (1619–1659) and the former Mary Lytton. He was one of five sons and two daughters, all of whom died unmarried except for William. Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford KG (1 November 1680 – 26 May 1711) was an English nobleman and politician. He was the son of William Russell, Lord Russell, and his wife Lady Rachel Wriothesley. From 1683 until 1694, he was styled Lord Russell, and from 1695 until his accession in 1700, Marquess of Tavistock.
