The pygmy mulga snake (''Pseudechis weigeli''), also Common name, commonly known as the pygmy king brown snake, is a species of venomous snake in the black snake genus ''Pseudechis'' in the family (biology), family Elapidae. The species is native to Australia. Geographic range In Australia, ''P. weigeli'' is Endemism, endemic to the Kimberley (Western Australia), Kimberley ranges. Habitat The preferred natural habitats of ''P. weigeli'' are forest and savanna. Reproduction ''P. weigeli'' is Ovoviviparity, ovoviviparous. Taxonomy ''P. weigeli'' was genetically confirmed as a distinct species in 2017. Within the genus ''Pseudechis'' it is most closely related to the eastern dwarf mulga snake (''P. pailsei)'' and an as yet undescribed species from the Northern Territory. Richard Walter Wells is an Australian herpetologist. He is known for editing the '' Australian Journal of Herpetology'' in the 1980s, in which he and C. Ross Wellington wrote and published three papers without academic peer review that proposed significant changes to the taxonomy and nomenclature of Australian reptiles and amphibians. Chris Hay (herpetologist)
Christopher Drummond Hay (born 28 August 1974) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He played as a striker for Celtic, Swindon Town, Huddersfield Town, St Johnstone and Stirling Albion. Hay began his professional career at Celtic in 1993, but only managed to make 26 league appearances in four years. He joined English club Swindon Town in 1997, and in just under a century of league appearances he scored 32 goals. In 2000, Hay moved to Huddersfield Town and spent two less successful seasons at the McAlpine Stadium. Hay returned to Scotland in 2002 with Billy Stark's St Johnstone. The species, which is native to Australia, was genetically confirmed as a distinct species in 2017. Taxonomy The eastern dwarf mulga snake was originally described in 1998 as ''Pailsus pailsei'' by Raymond Hoser. Wolfgang Wüster identified that its specific name should be spelt ''pailsi'' under taxonomic rules in 2001. However, according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Article 32.5.1) the original spelling should still be used, even though it is an incorrect latinization.
