First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Police Sports Club is a cricket team in Sri Lanka that has played first-class cricket since the 1995–96 season. Home ground Police Sports Club's home ground is Police Park Ground in Colombo. The ground has hosted cricket matches since 1973 and is a regular first-class venue. The ground also hosted four Youth ODI matches in 2000 and 2007 and a Youth Test in 2007.
