Push-down (exercise)
A push-down is a strength training exercise used for strengthening the triceps muscles in the back of the arm. This exercise can also be called a triceps push-down or a two-armed standing triceps extension. The exercise is completed by pushing an object downward against resistance. This exercise is an example of the primary function of the triceps, the extension of the elbow joint. There are multiple variations to the push-down that will target the triceps muscle in different ways. Rope push-down is a variation that involves connecting a rope attachment to a cable machine. While executing a rope push-down, the palms face in and the arms internally rotate while pushing down. Triceps
The triceps, or triceps brachii (Latin for "three-headed muscle of the arm"), is a large muscle on the ventral, back of the upper limb of many vertebrates. It consists of three parts: the medial, lateral, and long head. All three heads cross the elbow joint. However, the long head also crosses the shoulder joint. The triceps muscle contracts when the elbow is straightened and expands when the elbow is bent. The long head gets a further contraction when the arm is behind the torso due to how it crosses the shoulder joint. Elbow-joint
The elbow is the region between the arm, upper arm and the forearm that surrounds the elbow joint. Cable Machine
A cable machine is an item of equipment used in weight training or functional training. It consists of a rectangular, vertically oriented steel frame about 3 metres wide and 2 metres high, with a weight stack attached via a cable and pulley system to one or more handles. The cables that connect the handles to the weight stacks run through adjustable pulleys that can be fixed at any height. This allows a variety of exercises to be performed on the apparatus. One end of the cable is attached to a perforated steel bar that runs down the centre of the weight stack. To select the desired amount of resistance, move the metal pin into the labelled hole in the weight stack. The other end of the cable forms a loop, which allows the user to attach the appropriate handle for the exercise.
