Pure (The Primitives Album)
''Pure'' is the second studio album by the British band The Primitives, released in 1989 as the follow-up to their debut, '' Lovely''. The line-up changed slightly over the course of the previous year: Steve Dullaghan was replaced on the bass guitar by Paul Sampson, who also shared the production duties with Wayne Morris. The first U.S. single from ''Pure'' was "Sick of It", which reached #24 in the UK. ''Pure'' also features "Way Behind Me", a single which was actually released shortly after the debut album (rising to #36 on the UK charts in 1988) and added to all future editions of '' Lovely''. "Secrets" was also released as a single; however it stalled just inside the Top 50 (#49 UK). "I'll Be Your Mirror" is a cover of a Velvet Underground song from 1967. The Primitives
The Primitives are an English indie pop band from Coventry, best known for their 1988 international hit single "Crash". Formed in 1984, disbanded in 1992 and reformed in 2009, the band's two constant members throughout their recording career have been vocalist Tracy Tracy and guitarist Paul Court. Drummer Tig Williams has been a constant member since 1987. Often described as an indie pop or indie rock band, The Primitives' musical style can also be seen as straddling power pop, new wave and post-punk. Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. ''Galore'' is the third studio album by the British band The Primitives, first released in Europe in January 1992. It was not released in the UK until 13 April 1992. It was the final album recorded by the group in their first existence, as they disbanded shortly after this release. They would not record again until 2010, and would not release another album until 2012's '' Echoes and Rhymes''. ''Galore'' was reissued in an expanded double-CD edition by Cherry Red Records in January 2015. Reception In a retrospective review, Jake Kennedy of ''Record Collector'' said he would "love to pronounce it the overlooked gem" of the band's career "but, in truth, it's muddled by a mix of producers". ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. The first UK album chart was published in ''Record Mirror'' in 1956, and during the 1980s it was the only consumer music paper to carry the official UK singles and UK albums charts used by the BBC for Radio 1 and ''Top of the Pops'', as well as the US ''Billboard'' charts. I'll Be Your Mirror
"I'll Be Your Mirror" is a song by the Velvet Underground and Nico. It appeared on their 1967 debut album ''The Velvet Underground & Nico''. It also surfaced as a single a year earlier with "All Tomorrow's Parties" in 1966. Lou Reed wrote the song for Nico, who provides lead vocals. According to biographer Victor Bockris, inspiration for the song came about after Nico approached Reed after a show in 1965 saying, "Oh Lou, I'll be your mirror." The song was a favorite of Reed's and ''The Velvet Underground & Nico'' engineer, Norman Dolph. Mark Deming of AllMusic described "I'll Be Your Mirror" as an "understated love song."
