Daniel Pulteney
Daniel Pulteney (''c.'' 1684 – 7 September 1731) was an English government official and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1721 to 1731. Biography Pulteney was the son of John Pulteney (d. 1726), MP for Hastings and Commissioner of Customs, and Lucy Colville. He studied at Christ Church, Oxford, matriculating in 1699. He was one of the Commissioners for Trade and Plantations between July 1717 and October 1721. He entered Parliament in March 1721 as Member of Parliament for Tregony in Cornwall. In September he was appointed a Lord of the Admiralty, a post which he held until 1725. He was also later appointed Clerk of the Council in Ireland. At the general election of 1722, Pulteney was elected for two constituencies, Hedon (the Yorkshire borough owned by his cousin William Pulteney, who was its other MP) and Preston, which he chose to represent. Harry Pulteney
General Harry Pulteney (14 February 1686 – 26 October 1767) was an English soldier and Member of Parliament. He was the younger son of Colonel William Pulteney, of Misterton in Leicestershire, and Mary Floyd. His elder brother, William was one of the leading English statesmen of the 18th century and was eventually created Earl of Bath; he had inherited the family fortune including considerable estates in what is now central London, and also the parliamentary borough of Hedon in Yorkshire. Harry entered Parliament in as member for Hedon in 1722. His brother William had already been its MP for 17 years, and had offered the second seat to his cousin, Daniel Pulteney; but as Daniel was also elected for the (more prestigious) constituency of Preston, this left a vacancy which Harry was able to fill (William continuing to hold the other seat). James Pulteney
General Sir James Murray Pulteney, 7th Baronet PC (c. 1755 – 26 April 1811) was a Scottish soldier and British politician. Background and education Born James Murray, he was the eldest son of Colonel Sir Robert Murray, 6th Baronet and his first wife Janet Murray, a younger sister of Patrick Murray, 5th Lord Elibank. Murray succeeded his father as baronet in 1771, while still a minor. He was educated at Westminster School and joined then the British Army. Military career Murray had had his first commission purchased in his mid-teens, as lieutenant in the 19th Regiment of Foot in 1770. Already a year later, he became captain in the 57th Regiment of Foot. He left for Europe in 1772 and having spent the time travelling, he returned to his regiment in Ireland in November 1775. Richard Pulteney
Dr Richard Pulteney FRS FRSE FLS (17 February 173013 October 1801) was an English physician and botanist. He was a promoter of Linnaean taxonomy, and authored the first English language biography of Carl Linnaeus, entitled ''A General View of the Writings of Linnaeus''. Life He was born in Loughborough on 17 February 1730, the sole surviving child of thirteen children to Samuel Pulteney (1674-1754) a tailor and his wife, Mary Tomlinson (1692-1759) from neighbouring Hathern. The family were Calvinists. His maternal uncle, George Tomlinson of Hathern, instilled in him an early love of Natural History. He was educated at Loughborough Grammar School, and a school house was later named after him. After being apprenticed as an apothecary in Loughborough he was then sent to Scotland to study Medicine at Edinburgh University where he gained a doctorate (MD) in 1764. William Pulteney (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant-General Sir William Pulteney Pulteney, (18 May 1861 – 14 May 1941) was a British general during the First World War. Early military career Educated at Eton College, Pulteney was commissioned into the Oxford Militia in 1878. He transferred to the Scots Guards where he was commissioned a second lieutenant on 23 April 1881. Anglo-Egyptian War The following year he served in the Anglo-Egyptian War, where he was present at the Battle of Tell El Kebir (September 1882). On 4 May 1892 he was promoted to captain, and in 1895 he served with the Bunyoro expedition and the Nandi expedition, for which he was mentioned in despatches and was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).
