Puliyoor, Kerala
Puliyoor is a village in Chengannur municipality in Alappuzha district in the Indian state of Kerala. The schools in the village include Government HS Puliyoor, Govt U.P. School Perissery, Vallikkav LP School and Snehagiri U.P School. Government UP School was the first established school in the area and is over 100 years old. Today's school building is built using the timber obtained from the floodwaters during the Great flood of 99. Thrippuliyoor Mahadevakshethram (Puliyoor Temple) is the famous temple here which is mentioned in Thirukkural and Alvar scripts and is a main attraction. It is one of the 108 Vaishnava temples ( Divya Desam) and is believed to be established before 6th century CE. Today, many social associations and cultural clubs, libraries, temples and churches strengthen the culture of the region. Chengannur
Chengannur (also spelled Chengannoor or Chenganur) is a Municipality in the Alappuzha district of Kerala State, India. It is located in the extreme eastern part of the Alappuzha district, on the banks of Pamba River. Chengannur is north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the MC Road (State Highway 1). Chengannur is connected to Kollam and Kottayam by NH 220. Chengannur is noted for the Chengannur Mahadeva Temple (aka 'Dakshina Kailasam' as a major Shiva temple of South India) and its Old Syrian Church of the ancient Syrian Christian community. Chengannur is also a major destination of Sabarimala pilgrims known as the Gateway of Sabarimala. Puliyur Mahavishnu Temple
The Thripuliyoor Mahavishnu Temple (also called Mayapiran temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to MahaVishnu and located in Puliyoor, Alappuzha District, Kerala, South India. Constructed in the Kerala style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the ''Divya Prabandha'', the early medieval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the 6th–9th centuries AD. Divya Desam
A Divya Desam or Vaishnava Divya Desam is one of the 108 Vishnu and Lakshmi temples that is mentioned in the works of the Alvars, the poet-saints of the Sri Vaishnava tradition. Of the 108 temples, 105 are in India, one is in Nepal, and the last two are believed to outside the earth, in Tirupparkatal and Vaikuntham. In India, they are spread over the states of Tamil Nadu (84), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (2), Gujarat (1), Uttar Pradesh (4), and Uttarakhand (3). Great Flood Of 99
The Great flood of '99 (Malayalam:'തൊണ്ണൂറ്റി ഒമ്പതിലെ വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കം' (''Thonnootti Onbathile Vellapokkam'') occurred when the Periyar River in Kerala state of India flooded in the month of July 1924. This happened in the year 1099 ME in the Malayalam Calendar (Kollam Era).
