Pulga, California
Pulga is an unincorporated community in Butte County, California. It is located along the west slope of the Feather River canyon. A variant name for the community is Big Bar. History The land was once occupied by Konkow Maidu tribes. In 1885, the town of Pulga was founded by William King, a sawmill owner and railroad geologist. A post office was opened in 1906. The area had attracted gold miners and miners of vesuvianite, also known as "Pulga Jade". The town was always small, and peaked in size in the 1930s and 1940s with a few hundred people. The Pulga Bridges are two nearby bridges for highway and railroad crossings of the North Fork Feather River. The steel arch highway bridge, carrying State Route 70, crosses over the railroad bridge. The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history, and the most expensive natural disaster in the world in 2018 in terms of insured losses. Poe Dam
Poe Dam is a concrete gravity diversion dam on the North Fork Feather River, about north of Lake Oroville in Butte County, California in the United States. Completed in 1959, the dam is the lowermost component of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Feather River Canyon Power Project, a system of 10 hydroelectric stations along the North Fork. The dam is high and long, with water flows controlled by four radial gates. The dam diverts water through an tunnel to the 120 megawatt Poe Powerhouse, located on the upper reaches of Lake Oroville. The powerhouse has a rated hydraulic head of , generating about 500 million kilowatt hours annually. Feather River Route
The Feather River Route is a rail line that was built and operated by the Western Pacific Railroad. It was constructed between 1906 and 1909, and connects the cities of Oakland, California, and Salt Lake City, Utah. It was formed in 1903 as an attempt to break the near-monopoly the Southern Pacific Railroad had on rail service into northern California.
