Puerto Rico At The 2019 Pan American Games
Puerto Rico competed in the 2019 Pan American Games which took place in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019. On June 19, 2019, wrestler Franklin Gómez was named as the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. The Puerto Rico team consisted of 244 athletes. Originally, Puerto Rico won the gold medal in bowling - men's doubles, though Jean Perez, a member of the bowling team, was tested positive for doping with chlorthalidone, a prohibited diuretic. The Panam Sports Disciplinary Commission announced this positive the day the Lima Games are closed, on 11 August 2019. As a consequence, the Puerto Rican duo loses gold, which passes to the United States. Colombia gets the silver and the bronze goes to the Mexico team. The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR, es, Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico) is the National Olympic Committee for Puerto Rico. It oversees Olympic-sports in Puerto Rico, and selects the Olympic team which represents the island. It was founded by Julio Enrique Monagas, and was officially recognized in 1948. COPUR operates the ''Casa Olímpica'', its headquarters in Old San Juan. Teams representing Puerto Rico have participated in every Summer Olympics since 1948. Wrestling At The 2019 Pan American Games
Wrestling competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima were held between August 7 and 10, 2019 at the Miguel Grau Coliseum in the Villa Deportiva Regional del Callao cluster. The competition is split into two disciplines, Freestyle and Greco-Roman which were further divided into different weight categories. Men competed in both disciplines whereas women only took part in the freestyle events, with 18 gold medals awarded (12 for men and six for women). Wrestling has been contested at every Pan American Games. Basketball competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru began on July 27 and continue through August 10. The competitions are taking place at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibos. This was the Pan American Games debut of 3x3 basketball for both men and women, bringing the total number of basketball events on the program to four. This was done after the International Olympic Committee added the events to the program of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. A total of eight men's and eight women's teams (each consisting of up to twelve athletes) competed in each five-a-side tournament respectively, and six teams competed in each 3x3 tournament (with four athletes per team).
