Puerto Cabezas Airport
Puerto Cabezas Airport is an airport serving Puerto Cabezas, North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. It is located approximately one hour from Managua by aircraft. Operated by the state of Nicaragua, it mainly serves the city of Puerto Cabezas and Bluefields located close to the northeast corner of the country. Improvement plans There are plans to make the airport an international airport. The Airport Management Authority of Nicaragua has drawn up plans for improving the paved areas, taxiways, ramps and an air terminal. The new air terminal has a total area of and a parking lot for 30 vehicles. The terminal facilities are modern and air-conditioned. Immigration and customs services are also provided, but must be coordinated by respective authorities. Puerto Cabezas (; en, Bragman's Bluff; miq, Bilwi) is a municipality and city in Nicaragua. It is the capital of Miskito nation in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. The municipality and the entire region are native American lands. The city of Puerto Cabezas borders the Community of Ten Communities. North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region
The North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. It was created by the Autonomy Statute of 7 September 1987. It covers an area of 33,106 km2 and has a population of 541,189 (2021 estimate). It is the largest autonomous region or department in Nicaragua. The capital is Puerto Cabezas. It contains part of the region known as the Mosquito Coast. The North Autonomous Caribbean Coast has a Regional Council of representatives of different political parties, such as the Sandinistas (FSLN) and YATAMA (ethnic indigenous party), as well as all the municipalities. Bluefields International Airport is an airport serving Bluefields, a harbor city in the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. It is the busiest airport in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. A new terminal was opened recently and extension of the runway is planned. Currently, the airport serves only domestic and small international destinations, but plans are to make it international in the future. Taxicab and bus service are available. Road transport The road infrastructure is very well spread across the Pacific side, while the Atlantic side has less infrastructure.
