Pueblo Dodgers
The Pueblo Dodgers were a Class A minor league baseball team that was located in Pueblo, Colorado and played in the Western League from 1947 to 1958. History An affiliate of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (1947-1957 and the Chicago Cubs (1958), Pueblo won Western League Championships in 1947 and 1949. The franchise folded when the Western League dissolved in 1959. Ballparks The Dodgers played at a stadium called "County Park" in 1948 with the name changed to "Runyon Field" in 1948. Today it is known as Hobbs Field, within the Runyon Sports Complex. Western League (1900–1958)
The Western League was the name of several leagues in American minor league baseball. First, its earliest progenitor, which existed from 1885 to 1899, was the predecessor of the American League. Later, during the 20th century, there were four incarnations of the Western League, including a Class D loop, formerly the Nebraska State League, that played from 1939 to 1941, and an independent loop (outside of "organized baseball") that began play in 1995. This article, however, concentrates on the Western Leagues that played from 1900 to 1937 and from 1947 to 1958. Maurice Morning Wills (October 2, 1932 – September 19, 2022) was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) primarily for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1959 through 1966 and the latter part of 1969 through 1972 as a shortstop and switch-hitter; he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1967 and 1968, and the Montreal Expos the first part of 1969. Dave Stenhouse
David Rotchford Stenhouse (born September 12, 1933) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Washington Senators from to . Stenhouse batted and threw right-handed. Stenhouse attended Westerly High School, where he was captain of the school's basketball team; he was named Rhode Island athlete of the year after the 1950–51 season. Stenhouse played college baseball for the University of Rhode Island, and was an amateur free agent signing of the Chicago Cubs in 1955. He spent four years in the Cubs' farm system. With the Lafayette Oilers in 1956, Stenhouse had a 16–4 win–loss record and a 1.92 earned run average (ERA) in 26 games. After the 1958 season, the Cincinnati Redlegs picked him up from the Cubs' farm system. Lawrence Sherry (July 25, 1935 – December 17, 2006) was an American professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball as a right-handed relief pitcher from 1958 to 1968, most prominently as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers. William Walton Sharman (May 25, 1926 – October 25, 2013) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He is mostly known for his time with the Boston Celtics in the 1950s, partnering with Bob Cousy in what was then considered the greatest backcourt duo of all time.
