Puebla–Cholula Tourist Train
The Puebla–Cholula Tourist Train () was a diesel tram-train service that connected the city centre of Puebla with the tourist zone in Cholula in the Mexican state of Puebla. Operation began in January 2017 and ended in December 2021. History The project was announced in July 2015 by Puebla State Governor Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas. Construction began in November 2015 and was completed in early 2017 when it was inaugurated by President Enrique Peña Nieto and Governor Moreno Valle. Initially budgeted to cost 800 million pesos, final project costs totaled 1,113 million pesos. Route The single-track route largely utilized existing rail rights-of-way to the north and west of the city of Puebla. The route began at the in Puebla's city centre. The first of the route operated as a tram line without any stops along city streets with mixed vehicle traffic. Hybrid Rail
Hybrid rail, also known as diesel light rail transit (DLRT), is a mode of Passenger train, passenger rail service unique to North America that uses lightweight Multiple unit, multiple unit trains—typically Diesel multiple unit, diesel multiple units (DMUs)—operating on the Freight railroads in the United States, national rail system. In the United States, these vehicles do not comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Crashworthiness, Tier I crashworthiness standards and must operate under shared-use waivers that require temporal separation from Rail freight transport, freight rail traffic. Hybrid rail differs from Commuter rail, conventional commuter rail by offering frequent, all-day service rather than being limited to peak-period operations. However, service frequencies are generally lower than those of urban light rail systems. Although often categorized as a subset of light rail, hybrid rail systems employ mainline railway infrastructure and are closer in function ...

Tren Interoceánico
The Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec () is a government-owned railway system in Mexico that has three lines. It seeks to become a global logistics network focused on the manufacture and movement of goods between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The project consists of the renovation of the railroad, which is expected to increase the speed of the freight train from to , more than three times the current one. Meanwhile, the passenger train will be able to reach speeds of up to . History Project On 7 June 2020, President of Mexico, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador began the renovation of railway tracks and rehabilitation as passenger transport, the work will have an investment of more than 3 billion pesos to start, but that in total it is planned to allocate about 20 billion pesos in this project. Opening On 17 September 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated Tren Interoceánico#Redevelop ...

Railway Services Discontinued In 2021
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport using wheeled vehicles running in tracks, which usually consist of two parallel steel rails. Rail transport is one of the two primary means of land transport, next to road transport. It is used for about 8% of passenger and freight transport globally, thanks to its energy efficiency and potentially high speed.Rolling stock on rails generally encounters lower frictional resistance than rubber-tyred road vehicles, allowing rail cars to be coupled into longer trains. Power is usually provided by diesel or electric locomotives. While railway transport is capital-intensive and less flexible than road transport, it can carry heavy loads of passengers and cargo with greater energy efficiency and safety. Precursors of railways driven by human or animal power have existed since antiquity, but modern rail transport began with the invention of the steam locomotive in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the 19th c ...

Light Rail In Mexico
Light rail is a commonly used mode of public transit in North America. The term ''light rail'' was coined in 1972 by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA; the precursor to the U.S. Federal Transit Administration) to describe new streetcar transformations which were taking place in Europe and the United States. The Germans used the term ''Stadtbahn'', which is the predecessor to North American light rail, to describe the concept, and many in UMTA wanted to adopt the direct translation, which is ''city rail''. However, in its reports, UMTA finally adopted the term ''light rail'' instead. History of streetcars and light rail From the mid-19th century onwards, horse-drawn trams or ''horsecars'' were used in cities around the world. In the late 1880s electrically powered street railways became technically feasible following the invention of a trolley pole system of collecting current by American inventor Frank J. Sprague who installed the first successful system at Ri ...
