Puckane
Puckane, officially Puckaun (), is a village in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is also a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. The village is located 10 km north of Nenagh along the R493 and close to Lough Derg and Dromineer. It had a population of 250 people as of the 2016 census. People The songwriter Shane MacGowan spent much of his childhood in the neighbouring townland of Carney and has immortalised a number of local places in his songs such as "The Broad Majestic Shannon". The village was also mentioned in a well-known Christy Moore cover of Shane MacGowan and The Pogues song "The Fairy Tale of New York". A local landmark is "Paddy Kennedy's Pub". Ireland's 2015 Eurovision entrant Molly Sterling hails from Puckane. Literature It should not be confused with the eponymous fictional village in Spike Milligan's novel ''Puckoon''. Molly Sterling
Molly Sterling (born 8 March 1998) is an Irish singer and songwriter who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Playing with Numbers". Biography Sterling grew up in Puckane, County Tipperary. She was educated at Kilkenny College and then at St. Andrew's College, Dublin. Kildangan GAA
Kiladangan GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Hurling is the main sport which is played in the "North Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the village of Puckane but includes the areas of Ballycommon, Monsea and Dromineer near Nenagh. Kiladangan was formerly known as Kildangan GAA, however in January 2016 the club reverted to its former name of Kiladangan GAA. At the present time both club names are used interchangeably. Hurling club history From the foundation of the club in 1915, teams competed in the various championships in County Tipperary – Senior, Intermediate and Junior under various guises, namely Kiladangan, Kildangan, Ballycommon, Carney, Knigh and Lahorna. Dromineer The earliest form of the name dating from 1302 was Dromynwyr 4() is a small village and townland in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is situated on the shores of Lough Derg on the River Shannon. The village is located 10 km north of Nenagh on the R495 road. It is a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower. Historic documents describe the places as "Dromynnyre". The Diocese of Killaloe ( ; ga, Deoise Chill Dalua) is a Roman Catholic diocese in mid-western Ireland, one of six suffragan dioceses in the ecclesiastical province of Cashel and Emly. The cathedral church of the diocese is the Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul in Ennis, County Clare. The incumbent bishop of the diocese is Fintan Monahan. Geography The diocese is divided into 58 parishes, which are spread across five counties: 38 in Clare, thirteen in Tipperary, five in Offaly, one in Limerick, and one group parish in Laois. The parishes are grouped into 15 Pastoral Areas, where groups of priests are appointed to cover a number of parishes between them. Christy Moore
Christopher Andrew "Christy" Moore (born 7 May 1945) is an Irish folk singer, songwriter and guitarist. In addition to his significant success as an individual, he is one of the founding members of Planxty and Moving Hearts. His first album, ''Paddy'' ''on the Road'' was recorded with Dominic Behan in 1969. In 2007, he was named as Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. Nenagh Railway Station
Nenagh railway station serves the town of Nenagh and surrounding area in County Tipperary, in the Mid-West Region of Ireland. The station is located on Martyrs Road, Tyone, Nenagh. It opened on the 5th of October 1863 and is on the Limerick-Ballybrophy railway line, located between Birdhill railway station and Cloughjordan railway station. Passengers can connect at Ballybrophy to trains heading northeast to Dublin or southwest to Cork or Tralee. The buildings consist of a two-storey station house with a platform canopy supported on cast iron columns, a goods shed and a disused cast iron footbridge. The station is unstaffed and has a car park and sheltered bicycle parking. ''Puckoon'' is a comic novel by Spike Milligan, first published in 1963. It is his first full-length novel, and only major fictional work. Set in 1924, it details the troubles brought to the fictional Irish village of Puckoon by the Partition of Ireland: the new border, due to the incompetence of the Boundary Commission, passes directly through the village, with most of the village placed in the independent Irish Free State, but with a significant portion to Northern Ireland. Terence Alan "Spike" Milligan (16 April 1918 – 27 February 2002) was an Irish actor, comedian, writer, musician, poet, and playwright.
