Puck de Leeuw (1953 - 8 February 2002) was a Dutch director. She gained most fame with her series ''Love beyond frontiers'', describing European women who have fallen in love with men from completely different cultural backgrounds and decided go to their homes. The first documentary of the series brought her the 'Golden Zapper', the Audience Award for best documentary at the 1996 International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam. Eva Puck (November 25, 1892 – October 25, 1979) was an American entertainer, a vaudeville headliner who later found success performing in Broadway musical comedies and film. Early life She was born in New York City, the middle of three children raised by Abraham and Lena (née Salmon) Puck. There is some question about the family surname being Puck or Salmon, both were used in early press articles. Little is known of her mother who came to America from Poland in 1874 or her English father who immigrated in 1882. They married in 1887. By 1899, Eva and her older brother Harry were performing in a vaudeville song and dance act known as the Two Little Pucks. Theodore Thomas Puck (September 24, 1916 – November 6, 2005) was an American geneticist born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Chicago public schools and obtained his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree from the University of Chicago. His PhD work was on the laws governing the impact of an electron upon an atom and his doctoral adviser was James Franck. During WW II Puck stayed at the University of Chicago. There he worked in the laboratory of Oswald H. Robertson on the study of how bacteria and viruses can spread through the air and on dust particles. After a postdoc position in the laboratory of Renato Dulbecco, Puck was recruited in 1948 to establish and chair the University of Colorado Medical School's department of biophysics. He retired from the University of Colorado Medical School in 1995 as professor emeritus, but continued to do laboratory work there until a few weeks before his death. Wolfgang Johannes Puck (born July 8, 1949) is an Austrian-American chef and restaurateur. Early life and career Puck was born in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Austria. He learned cooking from his mother, who was a pastry chef. He took the surname of his stepfather, Josef Puck, after his mother's remarriage. The marriage produced two younger sisters and a younger brother for Wolfgang. He trained as an apprentice under Raymond Thuilier at L'Oustau de Baumanière in Les Baux-de-Provence, at Hôtel de Paris in Monaco, and at Maxim's Paris before moving to the United States in 1973 at age 24. Bertha "Puck" Brouwer (later van Duyne; 29 October 1930 – 6 October 2006) was a Dutch sprinter. Brouwer accomplished her first international notable result in 1950, when she won the silver medal at the European Championships, being part of the 4×100 metres relay team alongside Fanny Blankers-Koen. Maria Petronella "Puck" Oversloot (22 May 1914 – 7 January 2009) was a Dutch swimmer. Together with Marie Braun, she was the top national backstroke and freestyle competitor. At the 1932 Summer Olympics, Braun was listed for the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay, but fell ill and was replaced by Oversloot. The team won a silver medal, setting a new European record. Gerardus Henricus "Puck" van Heel (21 January 1904 – 19 December 1984) was a Dutch footballer. He earned 64 caps for the Netherlands national football team, and played in the 1934 and 1938 World Cups. He also represented the Netherlands at the 1928 Summer Olympics. During his club career, he played for his home town club of Feyenoord. Normally an inside left and left wing half, Van Heel was a slow player but possessed considerable vision and technical ability and was particularly good passer.
