The Swedish Publicists' Association (Swedish: ''Publicistklubben'') is a Swedish organisation devoted to promoting freedom of the press and free speech in journalism. The Association was founded in Stockholm in 1874 and today it has approximately 5,200 members and seven chapters in different regions of Sweden. It arranges debates on current topics and hands out prizes as well as scholarships, funded by a donation from Lars Johan Hierta. Martin Schibbye
Martin Karl Schibbye (; born October 17, 1980) is a Swedish journalist and former editor. After an assignment in the conflict-ridden Ogaden region of Ethiopia he was sentenced to eleven years in prison for terrorist crimes on December 27, 2011, but was later pardoned and released on 10 September 2012. He was held at the notorious Kaliti Prison. Career Schibbye became editor of Sweden's Revolutionary Communist Youth magazine ''Rebell'' in his twenties. After military service in Strängnäs 00-01, he graduated with a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in economic history and a B.A. in journalism. Today he is a freelance journalist. He has worked as a foreign correspondent for several newspapers, including ''The Times'', '' Amelia'' and ''Proletären''. ''Nordisk familjebok'' (, "Nordic Family Book") is a Swedish encyclopedia that was published in print from between 1876 and 1993, and that is now fully available in digital form via Project Runeberg at Linköping University. Despite their considerable age and relative obsolescence, the public domain editions of the encyclopedia remain important reference works in Finland, especially on Finnish Wikipedia. Dawit Isaak
Dawit Isaak (born 28 October 1964) is a Swedish-Eritrean playwright, journalist and writer who has been held in prison in Eritrea since 2001 without trial and is considered a traitor by the Eritrean government. Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience and has called for his immediate and unconditional release. For years, he was the only Swedish citizen held as a prisoner of conscience (he is now joined by the Swedish citizen and publicist Gui Minhai). Asylum and Swedish citizenship Isaak came to Sweden in August 1987, where he settled in the west coast city of Gothenburg and became a Swedish citizen on 4 November 1992. ''Nerikes Allehanda'' (shortened ''NA'') is a daily newspaper based in Örebro, Sweden, and distributed across Örebro County. It was founded in 1843 as a weekly paper and became a daily in 1894. The paper is owned by the media group LT Liberala Tidningar AB and the stated position of the editorial is "independently liberal". The name ''Nerikes Allehanda'' is roughly translated "All of Närke" (''allehanda'' is an older Swedish word meaning "of all sorts/kinds", and ''Nerike'' is an older Swedish spelling of Närke). Amun Abdullahi
Amun Abdullahi or Amun Abdullahi Mohammed (born October 23, 1974) is a Somali-Swedish journalist and founder of a girls' school in Mogadishu, Somalia. Biography Amun Abdullahi grew up in Somalia and came in the 1990s to Sweden as a refugee. In Sweden, she lived first in Umeå, then Stockholm's Rinkeby district, and finally Kista, before moving back to Mogadishu, Somalia. In Stockholm, she worked for SR International, and made several high-profile reports broadcast on Sveriges Radio. Among other things, she revealed in 2009 that a leader of a youth center in Rinkeby recruited young people to the Somali Islamist militia al-Shabab. She has been both physically and intellectually attacked and repeatedly threatened due to her work. She claims that Sweden is "more dangerous than Mogadishu" for a journalist who wants to tell the truth. Fredrik Gertten
Carl Fredrik (von) Gertten (born 3 April 1956 in Malmö) is a Swedish filmmaker, producer and journalist. In 2017, he was appointed as an honorary doctor at Malmö University. He is a brother to the documentary filmmaker Magnus Gertten. In 1994, he founded WG Film, a production company based in Malmö. Nowadays, he combines filmmaking with his role as a creative producer. His films have reached an audience in more than 100 countries. In 2015, Aktuell Hållbarhet named Gertten as the 45 most environmentally influential person in Sweden.
