Public Narrative
Public Narrative – founded in 1989 as the Community Media Workshop – is a nonprofit organization based in Chicago that connects neglected communities with the media to promote better news coverage. The stated aim is to be a catalyst for change in an informed society. Studs Terkel
Louis "Studs" Terkel (May 16, 1912 – October 31, 2008) was an American writer, historian, actor, and broadcaster. He received the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1985 for '' The Good War'' and is best remembered for his oral histories of common Americans, and for hosting a long-running radio show in Chicago. Early life Terkel was born to Russian Jewish immigrants, Samuel Terkel, a tailor, and Anna (Annie) Finkel, a seamstress, in New York City. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to Chicago, Illinois, where he spent most of his life. He had two brothers, Meyer (1905–1958) and Ben (1907–1965). He attended McKinley High School. From 1926 to 1936, his parents ran a rooming house that also served as a meeting place for people from all walks of life. Susy Schultz
Susy Schultz (born c. 1960) is an American journalist, educator and social advocate. She was the executive director of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago from July 2019 until September 2021. She formerly was president of the Public Narrative in Chicago. She was named one of the "most powerful women in Chicago journalism" by the media critic of the ''Chicago Tribune''. Early life Schultz was born circa 1960 to Vernette and Robert G. Schultz; the latter was a journalist (died 1989). Schultz graduated from Lawrence University in 1981, originally planning to become a teacher.
