Public Herald
Public Herald is a non-profit investigative news organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Launched in 2011 by Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman, Public Herald is known for their investigative reporting on fracking activity and its effect on water in Pennsylvania. Their slogan is, "media by and for the public interests." Public Herald has been active in environmental issues, publishing the films “Triple Divide", “Triple Divide edacted, and "Invisible Hand", and producing reports on fracking and its effects on groundwater in Pennsylvania. Public Herald also launched Fileroom.org, which collects information on oil and gas and makes those records available online so they are accessible to both the public and journalists. Investigative journalism is a form of journalism in which reporters deeply investigate a single topic of interest, such as serious crimes, political corruption, or corporate wrongdoing. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, also known as the Knight Foundation, is an American non-profit foundation that provides grants for journalism, communities, and the arts. The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) is a non-profit consortium of journalism organizations. The organization promotes nonprofit investigative and public service journalism through its association of member entities. History INN was founded as the Investigative News Network in 2009 at a summer conference held at the Pocantico Center in New York funded by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Surdna Foundation and the William Penn Foundation and organized by the Center for Public Integrity and the Center for Investigative Reporting.
