Frank Keenan
Frank Keenan (born James Francis Keenan; April 8, 1858 – February 24, 1929) was an American stage and film actor and stage director and manager during the silent-film era. He was among the first stage actors to star in Hollywood, and he pursued work in film features for a number of years. Early life Born to Irish Catholic parents in Dubuque, Iowa, Keenan acquired his education both there and at Boston College. Career In New York, he became a star, a celebrated Shakespearean actor who later specialized in ''King Lear.'' He was a noted Broadway matinee idol, and his name appeared at the top of showbills. He acted in such hits as ''The Capitol,'' ''A Poor Relation'' and '' The Girl of the Golden West''. He played the title role in '' Macbeth'' opposite Nance O'Neil. Alma Hanlon (April 30, 1890 – October 26, 1977) was an American silent film actress. Hanlon's film career was short, lasting only four years. She appeared in twenty-three films. Her first film role was as Dorothy Dare in ''The Fixer'' (1915) and her last was in ''The Profiteer'' (1919). Biography She was born on April 30, 1890, in New Jersey, the youngest daughter of George Hanlon. Her first husband was former correspondent and theatrical press agent Walter J. Kingsley, from 1905 until their divorce in 1917, with whom she had one child, Dorothy Kingsley (1909–1997). In 1918 she married director Louis Myll (1871–1939), when she had been living at Bayside, Queens for the last two years. She later moved with her daughter to the affluent suburb of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Though at the time the technology to synchronize sound with the film did not exist, music was seen as an essential part of the viewing experience. Robert Edeson
Robert Edeson (June 3, 1868 – March 24, 1931) was an American film and stage actor of the silent era and a vaudeville performer. Life and career Edeson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of manager and actor George R. Edeson. After working as treasurer of the Park Theatre in Brooklyn, he initially acted in New York in 1887 in a production of ''Fascination.'' He debuted on Broadway in ''Marriage'' (1896). His last Broadway appearance was in ''The World We Live In'' (1922). He also performed in vaudeville. Edeson received his first boost in films in 1914 when he starred in the Cecil B. DeMille directed film, '' The Call of the North'' (1914). Edeson replaced actor Rudolph Christians in Erich von Stroheim's production of ''Foolish Wives'' (1922), after Christians died of pneumonia.
