Geographic range and habitat The genus ''Ptyodactylus'' is distributed across dry areas of Africa and the Middle East. Description The common name, fan-fingered geckos, is derived from the pattern of the straight toes which are splayed out like the pattern of a snowflake. The pads on the ventral surface of the toes are adhesive, and each toe has a retractable claw. ''Ptyodactylus puiseuxi'', common names Israeli fan-fingered gecko and Syrian fan-fingered gecko, is a species of lizard in the family Phyllodactylidae. The species is Endemism, endemic to the Middle East. Etymology The Specific name (zoology), specific name, ''puiseuxi'', is in honor of French astronomer Victor Puiseux, Victor Alexandre Puiseux. Description ''P. puiseuxi'' is a medium-sized gecko. It is light to dark brown, with numerous white spots on the dorsal surface. The head is large and triangular. The tail has several white bands, and is shorter than the overall head and body length (snout-to-vent length). The dorsal scales are small and granular. Geographic range ''P. puiseuxi'' is found in Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.
