Pterodontia Dimidiata
''Pterodontia'' is a genus of small-headed flies (insects in the family Acroceridae). There are at least 20 described species in ''Pterodontia''. Description ''Pterodontia'' have eyes that are covered in hairs. Their antennae are attached below the middle of the head, and are small, short and inconspicuous. Their mouthparts are small and nearly imperceptible. The tibia have small, atypical spurs. The males have a tooth-like projection on the costal edge of the wing. George Robert Gray
George Robert Gray FRS (8 July 1808 – 6 May 1872) was an English zoologist and author, and head of the ornithological section of the British Museum, now the Natural History Museum, in London for forty-one years. He was the younger brother of the zoologist John Edward Gray and the son of the botanist Samuel Frederick Gray. George Gray's most important publication was his ''Genera of Birds'' (1844–49), illustrated by David William Mitchell and Joseph Wolf, which included 46,000 references. Biography He was born in Little Chelsea, London, to Samuel Frederick Gray, naturalist and pharmacologist, and Elizabeth (née Forfeit), his wife. He was educated at Merchant Taylor's School. Gray started at the British Museum as Assistant Keeper of the Zoology Branch in 1831. He began by cataloguing insects, and published an ''Entomology of Australia'' (1833) and contributed the entomogical section to an English edition of Georges Cuvier's ''Animal Kingdom''. Carl Robert Osten-Sacken or Carl-Robert Romanovich, Baron von der Osten-Sacken, Baron Osten Sacken (21 August 1828, – 20 May 1906) was a Russian diplomat and entomologist. He served as the Russian consul general in New York City during the American Civil War, living in the United States from 1856 to 1877. He worked on the taxonomy of flies in general and particularly of the family Tipulidae (crane flies). Wilhelm Ferdinand Erichson
Dr Wilhelm Ferdinand Erichson (26 November 1809 in Stralsund – 18 December 1848 in Berlin) was a trained medical doctor and a German entomologist. He was the author of many articles about insects mainly in ''Archiv für Naturgeschichte''. When writing in Latin, he latinised ''Wilhelm'' to ''Guillelmus'' becoming either ''Guil. F. Erichson'' or ''G.F. Erichson.'' He wrote a paper in 1842 on insect species collected at Woolnorth in Tasmania, Australia, which was the first detailed research published on the biogeography of Australian animals and was very influential in raising scientific interest in Australian fauna. Erichson was the curator of the Coleoptera collections at the ''Museum fur Naturkunde'' in Berlin from 1834 to 1848. Erichson's Scarabaeidae classification is nearly identical to the modern one.
