Psorospermum Febrifugum
''Psorospermum febrifugum'' is a flowering plant species in the genus ''Psorospermum'' occurring in Africa. It grows in open woodland over a wide range of altitudes. The inconspicuous flowers are fragrant, creamy-white and some 8mm in diameter. The fruit is a small berry some 6mm in diameter and bright red when mature. This plant contains xanthones Xanthone is an organic compound with the molecular formula O 6H4sub>2CO. It is a white solid. In 1939, xanthone was introduced as an insecticide and it currently finds uses as ovicide for codling moth eggs and as a larvicide. Xanthone is also ... like sporospermin. Édouard Spach
Édouard Spach (23 November 1801 – 18 May 1879) was a French botanist. The son of a merchant in Strasbourg, in 1824 he went to Paris, where he studied botany with René Desfontaines (1750–1831) and Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748–1836). He then became the secretary of Charles-François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776–1854). When de Mirbel became a professor at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (National Museum of Natural History), he followed him and remained at the museum for the remainder of his career. He published many monographs, including ''Histoire naturelle des végétaux. Phanérogames'' ("Natural history of plants: Spermatophytes"; fourteen volumes and an atlas, Roret, Paris, 1834–1848), and with Hippolyte François Jaubert (1798–1874), ''Illustrationes plantarum orientalium'' ("Illustrations of plants of the East"; five volumes, Roret, Paris, 1842–1857). A xanthonoid is a chemical natural phenolic compound formed from the xanthone backbone. Many members of the Clusiaceae contain xanthonoids. Xanthonoid biosynthesis in cell cultures of ''Hypericum androsaemum'' involves the presence of a benzophenone synthase condensing a molecule of benzoyl-CoA with three malonyl-CoA yielding to 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzophenone.
