Benjamin Preston Clark
Benjamin Preston Clark (October 8, 1860, in West Roxbury – January 11, 1939, in Philadelphia), known to friends as "Preston", was an American entomologist who specialized in Lepidoptera, especially Sphingidae. He also operated a mercantile business and patented a new form of twine for binding grain. Biography Early life and education Clark was the direct descendant of Captain Joseph Weld (1599–1646), a progenitor of the wealthy Weld family of Boston. He grew up on the Weld Farm, a plot of 278 acres (1.13 km2) in Roxbury that was granted to his ancestor by the colonial legislature for "bravery fighting the Indians" during the Pequot War in 1637. He attended Amherst College from 1877 to 1881, where he developed a passion for the natural sciences. However, the failure of his father's mercantile firm (B. C. The Sphingidae are a family of moths (Lepidoptera) called sphinx moths, also colloquially known as hawk moths, with many of their caterpillars known as “hornworms”; it includes about 1,450 species. Seram
Seram (formerly spelled Ceram; also Seran or Serang) is the largest and main island of Maluku province of Indonesia, despite Ambon Island's historical importance. It is located just north of the smaller Ambon Island and a few other adjacent islands, such as Saparua, Haruku, Nusa Laut and the Banda Islands.
