Antonio Giordani Soika
Antonio Giordani Soika (9 May 1913 – 2 January 1997) was an Italian entomologist, ecologist and director of the Civic Museum of Natural History of Venice (''Museo Civico di Storia Naturale''). He had a long career in which he worked on various groups of insects but much of his work was on the Hymenoptera. He made great contributions to the knowledge of Neotropical wasps, especially potter wasps for which he produced many taxonomic keys and also monographs on the systematics of the wasp family Vespidae The Vespidae are a large (nearly 5000 species), diverse, cosmopolitan family of wasps, including nearly all the known eusocial wasps (such as ''Polistes fuscatus'', ''Vespa orientalis'', and ''Vespula germanica'') and many solitary wasps. Each .... Publications Below is a partial list of the extensive published work of Antonio Giordani Soika: *1941 Studi sui Vespidi solitari VI. ''Studio di alcuni tipi di vespidi solitary Boll. Ferdinand Morawitz

His parents were German emigrants from Silesia. He was brought up in a closed school for boys. In 1853, Morawitz graduated from the 'Dorpat' (part of Tartu University), Estonia with a 'Doctor of Medicine' degree. With a final year dissertation on the anatomy of Blatta germanica. After he graduated, he moved to St Petersburg. He then had a Doctors practise for 15 years until 1879. But in his spare time he was interested in entomology. He was one of the founding members of the Russian Entomological Society in 1859. He first published scientific work on Coleoptera in 1860. Morawitz also studied the collection of naturalist Alexei Pavlovich Fedchenko, who had collected significant numbers of insects from three explorations from 1869 to 18 ...

Potter Wasp
Potter wasps (or mason wasps), the Eumeninae, are a cosmopolitan wasp group presently treated as a subfamily of Vespidae, but sometimes recognized in the past as a separate family, Eumenidae. Recognition Most eumenine species are black or brown, and commonly marked with strikingly contrasting patterns of yellow, white, orange, or red (or combinations thereof), but some species, mostly from tropical regions, show faint to strong blue or green metallic highlights in the background colors. Like most vespids, their wings are folded longitudinally at rest. They are particularly recognized by the following combination of characteristics: # a posterolateral projection known as a parategula on both sides of the mesoscutum; # tarsal claws cleft; # hind coxae with a longitudinal dorsal carina or folding, often developed into a lobe or tooth, and; # fore wings with three submarginal cells. Biology Eumenine wasps are diverse in nest building. The different species may either use existi ...

Biological Pest Control Wasps
Biology is the scientific study of life. It is a natural science with a broad scope but has several unifying themes that tie it together as a single, coherent field. For instance, all organisms are made up of cells that process hereditary information encoded in genes, which can be transmitted to future generations. Another major theme is evolution, which explains the unity and diversity of life. Energy processing is also important to life as it allows organisms to move, grow, and reproduce. Finally, all organisms are able to regulate their own internal environments. Biologists are able to study life at multiple levels of organization, from the molecular biology of a cell to the anatomy and physiology of plants and animals, and evolution of populations.Based on definition from: Hence, there are multiple subdisciplines within biology, each defined by the nature of their research questions and the tools that they use. Like other scientists, biologists use the scientific metho ...
