Pseudotheraptus Wayi
''Pseudotheraptus wayi'', the coconut bug, is a species of leaf-footed bug in the family Coreidae. It is a pest of coconut in East Africa. Distribution ''P. wayi'' is found in tropical and subtropical Africa, its range including Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa. Life cycle Eggs are laid on host plants and take 30 to 40 days to develop, depending on external conditions. As a true bug, this species goes through incomplete metamorphosis, the nymph passing through five instar stages. The adult females survive for up to two months, laying two or three eggs a day. Host range ''P. wayi'' is a pest of coconut and various other fruit crops. It attacks the growing points of shoots, flowers (where it may cause petal drop) and fruit (where it may cause abnormal shape, pitting, brown or black lesions, exudation of gum and fruit drop). In coconuts, young nymphs feed at the base of male flowers, and older nymphs and adults feed on the female flowers ...

True Bugs
Hemiptera (; ) is an order of insects, commonly called true bugs, comprising over 80,000 species within groups such as the cicadas, aphids, planthoppers, leafhoppers, assassin bugs, bed bugs, and shield bugs. They range in size from to around , and share a common arrangement of piercing-sucking mouthparts. The name "true bugs" is often limited to the suborder Heteroptera. Entomologists reserve the term ''bug'' for Hemiptera or Heteroptera,Gilbert Waldbauer. ''The Handy Bug Answer Book.'' Visible Ink, 1998p. 1. which does not include other arthropods or insects of other orders such as ants, bees, beetles, or butterflies. In some variations of English, all terrestrial arthropods (including non-insect arachnids, and myriapods) also fall under the colloquial understanding of ''bug''. Many insects with "bug" in their common name, especially in American English, belong to other orders; for example, the lovebug is a fly and the Maybug and ladybug are beetles. The term is al ...

Coreidae
Coreidae is a large family of predominantly sap-sucking insects in the Hemipteran suborder Heteroptera. The name "Coreidae" derives from the genus ''Coreus'', which derives from the Ancient Greek () meaning bedbug. As a family, the Coreidae are cosmopolitan, but most of the species are tropical or subtropical. Common names and significance The common names of the Coreidae vary regionally. Leaf-footed bug refers to leaf-like expansions on the legs of some species, generally on the hind tibiae. In North America, the pest status of species such as ''Anasa tristis'' on squash plants and other cucurbits gave rise to the name squash bugs. The Coreidae are called twig-wilters or tip-wilters in parts of Africa and Australia because many species feed on young twigs, injecting enzymes that macerate the tissues of the growing tips and cause them to wilt abruptly. Morphology and appearance The Coreidae commonly are oval-shaped, with antennae composed of four segments, numerous veins in ...
