Pseudorhabdosynochus Maaensis
''Pseudorhabdosynochus maaensis'' is a Diplectanidae, diplectanid monogenean parasitic on the gills of the malabar grouper, ''Epinephelus malabaricus''. It has been described in 2007. Description ''Pseudorhabdosynochus maaensis'' is a small monogenean, 0.5 mm in length. The species has the general characteristics of other species of ''Pseudorhabdosynochus'', with a flat body and a posterior haptor, which is the organ by which the monogenean attaches itself to the gill of is host. The haptor bears two squamodiscs, one ventral and one dorsal. The sclerotized male copulatory organ, or "quadriloculate organ", has the shape of a bean with four internal chambers, as in other species of ''Pseudorhabdosynochus''.Kritsky, D. Serranidae
The Serranidae are a large family of fishes belonging to the order Perciformes. The family contains about 450 species in 65 genera, including the sea basses and the groupers (subfamily Epinephelinae). Although many species are small, in some cases less than , the giant grouper (''Epinephelus lanceolatus'') is one of the largest bony fishes in the world, growing to in length and in weight. Representatives of this group live in tropical and subtropical seas worldwide. Characteristics Many serranid species are brightly colored, and many of the larger species are caught commercially for food. They are usually found over reefs, in tropical to subtropical waters along the coasts. Serranids are generally robust in form, with large mouths and small spines on the gill coverings. They typically have several rows of sharp teeth, usually with a pair of particularly large, canine-like teeth projecting from the lower jaw. All serranids are carnivorous. Although some species, especially i ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Nouméa
Nouméa () is the capital and largest city of the French special collectivity of New Caledonia and is also the largest francophone city in Oceania. It is situated on a peninsula in the south of New Caledonia's main island, Grande Terre, and is home to the majority of the island's European, Polynesian ( Wallisians, Futunians, Tahitians), Indonesian, and Vietnamese populations, as well as many Melanesians, Ni-Vanuatu and Kanaks who work in one of the South Pacific's most industrialised cities. The city lies on a protected deepwater harbour that serves as the chief port for New Caledonia. At the September 2019 census, there were 182,341 inhabitants in the metropolitan area of Greater Nouméa (), 94,285 of whom lived in the city (commune) of Nouméa proper. 67.2% of the population of New Caledonia live in Greater Nouméa, which covers the communes of Nouméa, Le Mont-Dore, Dumbéa and Païta. History The first European to establish a settlement in the vicinity was British ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Type (biology)
In biology, a type is a particular specimen (or in some cases a group of specimens) of an organism to which the scientific name of that organism is formally attached. In other words, a type is an example that serves to anchor or centralizes the defining features of that particular taxon. In older usage (pre-1900 in botany), a type was a taxon rather than a specimen. A taxon is a scientifically named grouping of organisms with other like organisms, a set that includes some organisms and excludes others, based on a detailed published description (for example a species description) and on the provision of type material, which is usually available to scientists for examination in a major museum research collection, or similar institution. Type specimen According to a precise set of rules laid down in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) and the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), the scientific name of every taxon is almost al ... Pseudorhabdosynochus Manifestus
''Pseudorhabdosynochus manifestus'' is a diplectanid monogenean parasite first found in host '' Epinephelus malabaricus'' near Nouméa, between its secondary gill lamellae. It can infest its host by the hundreds. It was ascribed that name because it was the most abundant species found while its descriptive study was taking place. As appreciated from studying juvenile specimens, the development of female organs precedes that of male organs in this species and is likely the case in other ''Pseudorhabdosynochus'' species. '' Pseudorhabdosynochus huitoe'', '' Pseudorhabdosynochus shenzhenensis'' and '' Pseudorhabdosynochus serrani'' all share with ''P. manifestus'': a sclerotised vagina with a conical primary canal with one lonely coil anteriorly, and small primary and secondary chambers. ''P. huitoe'', furthermore, shares ''P. manifestus'' characteristic spherical primary chamber with a think internal wall. ''P. manifestus'' is different by having a longer vagina, and morphological ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Diplectanidae
The Diplectanidae are a family of monopisthocotylean monogeneans. They are all parasitic on the gills of fish (marine or freshwater). Diplectanids are small animals, generally around 1 mm in length. As parasites, they can be extremely numerous, up to several thousand on an individual fish. History The family Diplectanidae was proposed by the Italian parasitologist Monticelli in 1903 (as subfamily Diplectaninae). The status of the family and its components was later examined by various authors, including Johnston & Tiegs (1922), Price (1937),Price, E. W. 1937: North American Monogenetic Trematodes. I. The superfamily Gyrodactyloidea ''Journal of the Washington Academy of Sciences'' 27, 146-164PDF Bychowsky (1957), Yamaguti (1963), and Oliver (1987). Morphology Diplectanids are diagnosed by the combination of these three characters: * Presence of accessory adhesive organs on dorsal and ventral part of the haptor, called squamodiscs when they are made up of rodlets and lame ...
