Most commonly referred to as marine flatworms, closely related to the orders Macrostomorpha and Lecithoepitheliata. These organisms have very complex reproductive systems, no blood systems or organs for gas exchange, a simple brain and are hermaphroditic. Libbie Hyman
Libbie Henrietta Hyman (December 6, 1888 – August 3, 1969), was a U.S. zoologist. She wrote numerous works on invertebrate zoology and the widely used '' A Laboratory Manual for Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy'' (1922, revised in 1942). Life Born in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph Hyman and Sabina ('Bena') Neumann. Hyman's father, a Polish/Russian Jew, adopted the surname when he immigrated to the United States as a youth. He successively owned clothing stores in Des Moines, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and in Fort Dodge, Iowa, but the family's resources were limited. Hyman attended public schools in Fort Dodge. At home she was required to do much of the housework. Corals are marine invertebrates within the class Anthozoa of the phylum Cnidaria. They typically form compact colonies of many identical individual polyps. Coral species include the important reef builders that inhabit tropical oceans and secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton. A coral "group" is a colony of very many genetically identical polyps. Each polyp is a sac-like animal typically only a few millimeters in diameter and a few centimeters in height. A set of tentacles surround a central mouth opening. Each polyp excretes an exoskeleton near the base. Adolph Eduard Grube (18 May 1812, Königsberg – 23 June 1880 , Breslau) was a German zoologist. Adolph Eduard Grube, an able worker in many animal groups, was mainly interested in Polychaetes. In 1837 he defended his thesis at the University of Königsberg (then in Prussia). From 1843-1856 he was Professor of Zoology in the Universität Dorpat (then in Livonia) then at the Universität Breslau (now the University of Wrocław). ''Pseudoceros'' is a genus of the flatworms Platyhelminthes. Description Easily recognized features within the genus include a ruffled pharynx, branched intestines, and tentacles on the leading edge.  The tentacles may act as chemoreceptors and may also have primitive eyes, simple light-sensitive cells, on them. The Polyclad worms are acoelomates and bilaterally symmetrical. Color is the main identifier within the family Pseudocerotidae to separate it into genera, as it can be difficult to distinguish internal reproductive anatomy between genera. Because of the similarities in body plan and structure, it is assumed that chemical cues are how these organisms can recognize their own species and differentiate between others. The intense coloring and patterning on these flatworms could be used to camouflage with their surroundings, confuse and elude predators, to communicate with other members of the species, or as aposematism to warn predators of their deadly toxins.
