Pseudicius
''Pseudicius'' is a genus of the jumping spiders first described by Eugène Simon in 1885. The name is combined of Greek ''pseudo'' "false" and the salticid genus name ''Icius''. The small genus '' Wesolowskana'' (formerly known as ''Luxuria'') should possibly be included in this genus. There is some dispute whether ''Afraflacilla'' is a distinct genus or should be included in ''Pseudicius''. '' Festucula'' and ''Marchena'' are other close relatives, these genera form a monophyletic group. Species , the World Spider Catalog accepted the following species. Many species formerly placed here have been transferred to a variety of other genera. * '' Pseudicius adustus'' Wesołowska, 2006 – Namibia * '' Pseudicius africanus'' Peckham & Peckham, 1903 – South Africa, Lesotho * '' Pseudicius amicus'' Prószyński, 2000 – Middle East * '' Pseudicius andamanius'' ( Tikader, 1977) – Andaman Islands * '' Pseudicius athleta'' Wesołowska, 2011 – Uganda, Kenya * '' Pseudicius badius ...

Pseudicius Adustus
''Pseudicius adustus'' is a species of jumping spider in the genus '' Pseudicius'' that is endemic to Namibia. The spider was first defined in 2016 by Wanda Wesołowska. The spider is small, with an oval carapace typically long and an abdomen long. The abdomen is elongated like other members of the genus, but with a yellowish with a pattern of eight brown patches. The female has an ovoid epigyne that has a large deep central depression and short wide insemination ducts. The design of the epigyne helps distinguish it from related species, like '' Pseudicius solitarius'', which has larger receptacles and longer insemination ducts. It can also be most identified by the pattern on its abdomen. The male has not been described. Taxonomy ''Pseudicius adustus'' is a jumping spider that was first described by the Polish arachnologist Wanda Wesołowska in 2006. It was one of more than 500 species that she identified in her career, making her one of the most prolific in the discipli ...

Pseudicius Africanus
''Pseudicius africanus'' is a species of jumping spider in the genus '' Pseudicius'' that lives in Lesotho and South Africa. The spider was first defined in 1903 by George and Elizabeth Peckham. It is small, with an oval cephalothorax measuring between in length and an ovoid abdomen that is between in length. The female is smaller than the male. Otherwise, they are similar, generally dark brown but with white stripes, made of hairs, down the middle and the along the sides of the top of both the carapace and abdomen. The underside of the abdomen differs in being grey and marked by two lighter lines. The female's legs are also lighter, and the front legs on the male are stouter than all the others. The pattern on the abdomen helps distinguish the spider from the related '' Pseudicius maculatus''. It also has distinctive copulatory organs. The male has a shorter curved embolus and a characteristic tooth near the base of the tibial apophysis, or spike on the palpal tibia. The f ...

Pseudicius Athleta
''Pseudicius athleta'' is a species of jumping spider in the genus '' Pseudicius'' that is found in Kenya and Uganda. The spider was first defined in 2011 by Wanda Wesołowska. It lives communally, in individual nests which may contain either male or female spiders, which engage in complex courtship rituals. The spider is small, with an elongated cephalothorax between long and an abdomen between long. The carapace is dark brown with a black eye field but the abdomen has a pattern that differs between the male, which is marked by a brownish-fawn streak, and the female, which has a complex pattern consisting of a herring-bone pattern on the top, diagonal patches on the edge and two small round white spots on the bottom. ''Pseudicius athleta'' can be differentiated from other species in the genus by its copulatory organs. The male has a long thin embolus and characteristic tibial apophysis, which has three prongs. The female has narrow tube-like spermathecae. However, it is t ...

Afraflacilla
''Afraflacilla'' is a genus of the spider family Salticidae (jumping spiders). Most species are distributed in Eastern to Northern Africa (including the Middle East) and Australia, with two species (''A. epiblemoides and A. tarajalis'') found in Europe. This genus was for a time included in the genus ''Pseudicius'', and the boundaries between both genera are disputed. In 2016 Jerzy PrószyÅ„ski erected the genus ''Psenuc'' for some borderline species. The name ''Afraflacilla'' is combined from Africa, where most earlier described species were found, and ''Flacilla'' Simon, 1901, an obsolete salticid genus now called '' Flacillula'' Strand, 1932. This genus name is in turn derived from Aelia Flaccilla, wife of Roman Emperor Theodosius I. ''Afraflacilla'', ''Pseudicius'', '' Festucula'' and ''Marchena'' are close relatives and form a monophyletic group. Afraflacilla species have tubercles and bristles (on the sides of the carapace near the eyes and on their legs) which they r ...

Marchena
''Marchena'' is a genus of jumping spiders only found in the United States. Its only described species, ''M. minuta'', dwells on the barks of conifers along the west coast, especially California, Washington and Nevada.Maddison, Wayne. 1995. Marchena. Marchena minuta. Version 1 January 1995 (under construction). http://tolweb.org/Marchena_minuta/2986/1995.01.01 in The Tree of Life Web Project, http://tolweb.org/ It forms a monophyletic group with the genera ''Afraflacilla'', ''Pseudicius'' and '' Festucula''.Zabka & Grey 2002 Description This species can easily be distinguished from others in its range by the tubercles on the first femur of its first legs. ''M. minuta'' has a body length of about 4 mm. Name The genus name is probably derived from the Spanish city of Marchena, Seville. As witnessed by other generic names, the describers had a habit of naming taxa after places unrelated to the species' distribution. The species name is Latin Latin (, or , ) is a c ...

Wesolowskana
''Wesolowskana'' is a spider genus of the family Salticidae (jumping spiders). Both described species are endemic to the Cape Verde Islands. The genus should possibly be included in the genus ''Pseudicius''. It was originally named ''Luxuria'' when it was first described by Wanda WesoÅ‚owska in 1989. It was renamed in 2008 because ''Luxuria'' was already in use for a genus of molluscs Mollusca is the second-largest phylum of invertebrate animals after the Arthropoda, the members of which are known as molluscs or mollusks (). Around 85,000 extant taxon, extant species of molluscs are recognized. The number of fossil sp .... This genus was named in honour of Wanda WesoÅ‚owska. Wanda Wesołowska
Wanda Wesołowska (born 11 August 1950) is a Polish zoologist known for her work with jumping spiders. She has described more species of jumping spider than any contemporary writer, and is second only to Eugène Simon in the history of arachnology. Originally a student of ornithology, she developed an interest in jumping spiders while still a student at the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in the 1970s. She subsequently undertook study into the genus ''Heliophanus'' at the University of Wroclaw. Her subsequent doctoral thesis described 44 new species, and joined the staff at the university. She stayed until retiring in 2020. Her research included the taxonomy and zoogeography of jumping spiders, and has included extensive work on African genera like ''Menemerus'' and ''Pachyballus''. She has identified over 500 species, including half of all those from South Africa, as well as having more than 20 named after her. Early life Wanda Wesołowska (née Nowysz) was ...

Andaman Islands
The Andaman Islands () are an archipelago in the northeastern Indian Ocean about southwest off the coasts of Myanmar's Ayeyarwady Region. Together with the Nicobar Islands to their south, the Andamans serve as a maritime boundary between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east. Most of the islands are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a Union Territory of India, while the Coco Islands and Preparis Island are part of the Yangon Region of Myanmar. The Andaman Islands are home to the Andamanese, a group of indigenous people that includes a number of tribes, including the Jarawa and Sentinelese. While some of the islands can be visited with permits, entry to others, including North Sentinel Island, is banned by law. The Sentinelese are generally hostile to visitors and have had little contact with any other people. The government protects their right to privacy. History Etymology In the 13th century, the name of Andaman appears in Late Middle ...
