Prudenci Bertrana
Prudenci Bertrana i Comte (; Tordera, 19 January 1867 - Barcelona, 21 November 1941) was an important modernist writer in Catalan. Biography During his youth, he studied at Girona. Some years later, he went to Barcelona to pursue a course in industrial engineering and managed such magazines as ''L'Esquella de la Torratxa'' or ''La Campana de Gràcia''. He worked as a journalist and also taught art. Bertrana also collaborated with other newspapers such as ''El Poble Català'', '' La Publicitat'', '' Revista de Catalunya'' and ''La Veu de Catalunya''. His style is certainly distinguished in relation to the fashions of the moment. He is quite known because of his novel ''Josafat'' (1906), the book with which began his literary production, and also for his short story collection ''Proses bàrbares'' (''Barbarous prose'', 1911). Modernisme Writers
''Modernisme'' (, Catalan for "modernism"), also known as Catalan modernism and Catalan art nouveau, is the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the search of a new entitlement of Catalan culture, one of the most predominant cultures within Spain. Nowadays, it is considered a movement based on the cultural revindication of a ''Catalan identity''. ''La Veu de Catalunya'' (Catalonia voice) was a Catalan newspaper founded by Enric Prat de la Riba that was published in Barcelona from 1 January 1899 to 8 January 1937, with two editions daily. It was the press organ for the ideological and political program of the Lliga Regionalista, and the conservative editorial line promoted the so-called ''Autonomia'', the normality of the public use of the Catalan language and the Catalan school. From a journalistic point of view, it was a modern newspaper, organized by sections, with correspondents and collaborators in the territory, and a team that combined young people and the best journalists of the time. Tordera
Tordera is a city in the comarca of Maresme, province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, situated 64 km from Barcelona and 36 km from Girona on the edge of the Montnegre natural park. Its population as of 2010 was 15,641. The economy used to be based on agriculture, especially cork production, but has diversified into textile manufacturing and construction. The Tordera River flows through the town. The Romanesque church of Saint Stephen is situated in the town centre: part of the altar is original, but the rest of the building was renovated in the 16th and 18th centuries. ''La Campana de Gràcia'' (; "Gràcia's bell") was a seminal Catalan weekly magazine of satire, written bilingually in Catalan and Spanish of the late 19th and early 20th century, staunchly supportive of republicanism and anticlericalism. The headquarters was in Barcelona. History and profile ''La Campana de Gràcia'' was founded in 1870 by and was edited for 64 years. The magazine was first published on 8 May 1870. The magazine was published on a weekly basis. Although at first it focused on the Spanish politics of the time, often leaving out Catalan politics and Catalanist actions, its ideological tone changed over time and by 1906 it openly expressed support for Solidaritat Catalana and Catalan working-class left-wing political issues.
