Provençal Dialect
Provençal (, , ; french: provençal , ; oc, provençau or ) is a Romance language, either considered as a variety of Occitan or a separate language, spoken by people in Provence and parts of Drôme. Historically, the term Provençal has been used to refer to the whole of the Occitan language, but today it is considered more technically appropriate to refer only to the variety of Occitan spoken in Provence. However it can still be found being used to refer to Occitan as a whole, ''e.g.'' Merriam-Webster states that it can be used to refer to general Occitan, though this is going out of use. Provençal is also the customary name given to the older version of the Occitan language used by the troubadours of medieval literature, when Old French or the ' was limited to the northern areas of France. Thus the ISO 639-3 code for Old Occitan is ro In 2007, all the ISO 639-3 codes for Occitan dialects, including rvfor Provençal, were retired and merged into ciOccitan. The old cod ...

Franco-Provençal Language
Franco-Provençal (also Francoprovençal, Patois or Arpitan) is a language within Gallo-Romance originally spoken in east-central France, western Switzerland and northwestern Italy. Franco-Provençal has several distinct dialects and is separate from but closely related to neighbouring Romance dialects (the langues d'oïl and the langues d'oc, in France, as well as Rhaeto-Romance in Switzerland and Italy). Even with all its distinct dialects counted together, the number of Franco-Provençal speakers has been declining significantly and steadily. According to UNESCO, Franco-Provençal was already in 1995 a "potentially endangered language" in Italy and an "endangered language" in Switzerland and France. Ethnologue classifies it as "nearly extinct". The designation ''Franco-Provençal'' (Franco-Provençal: ; french: francoprovençal; it, francoprovenzale) dates to the 19th century. In the late 20th century, it was proposed that the language be referred to under the neologism ...

Provencal Wine
Provence (Provençal) wine comes from the French wine-producing region of Provence in southeast France. The Romans called the area ''provincia nostra'' ("our province"), giving the region its name. Just south of the Alps, it was the first Roman province outside Italy. Wine has been made in this region for at least 2,600 years, ever since the ancient Greeks founded the city of Marseille in 600 BC. Throughout the region's history, viticulture and winemaking have been influenced by the cultures that have been present in Provence, which include the Ancient Greeks, Romans, Gauls, Catalans and Savoyards. These diverse groups introduced a large variety of grapes to the region, including grape varieties of Greek and Roman origin as well as Spanish, Italian and traditional French wine grapes.J. Robinson (ed) ''"The Oxford Companion to Wine"'' Third Edition pg 551 Oxford University Press 2006 Today the region is known predominantly for its rosé wine, though wine critics such as Tom St ...

Dolcetto
Dolcetto ( , , ) is a black Italian wine grape variety widely grown in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy. The Italian word ''dolcetto'' means "little sweet one", but it is not certain that the name originally carried any reference to the grape’s sugar levels: it is possible that it derives from the name of the hills where the vine is cultivated. In any case the wines produced are nearly always dry. They can be tannic and fruity with moderate, or decidedly low, levels of acidity and are typically meant to be consumed within a few years after release.O. Clarke ''Encyclopedia of Grapes'' pg 86 Harcourt Books 2001 History One theory suggests the grape originated in France and was brought to Monferrato some time in the 11th century.J. Robinson ''Vines, Grapes & Wines'' pg 209 Mitchell Beazley Publishing 1986 A competing theory has the grape originating in the Piedmontese village of Dogliani.K. MacNeil ''The Wine Bible'' pg 332 Workman Publishing 2001 In 1593, an ordina ...
