David Provan (footballer, Born 1941)
David Provan (11 March 1941 – 26 November 2016) was a Scottish professional footballer, who played for Rangers, Crystal Palace, Plymouth Argyle and St Mirren. Provan also played for Scotland and the Scottish League XI. Career Provan was a product of the Rangers youth team and played as a full back. He made his debut on 27 December 1958, in a league match away to Third Lanark which Rangers won 3–2. He helped the club win a domestic treble in 1963–64 and played in the 1967 European Cup Winners' Cup Final, which Rangers lost 1–0 to Bayern Munich. Provan is one of the players elected to Rangers' Hall of Fame. He left the club in June 1970 and joined English club Crystal Palace, although he was not there for long, making only two senior appearances in total, before moving on in March 1971, to Plymouth Argyle. Jaimee Sarah Provan-Claxton (born 3 February 1978) is a field hockey forward from New Zealand, who represented her native country in 2 Olympic Games: the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece- here she finished in sixth place with the Women's National Team. James Lyal Clark Provan (born 19 December 1936) is a British farmer, businessman and politician who served four terms as a Member of the European Parliament. A member of the Conservative Party, he specialised in agriculture, and became a critic of the development of the European Union and especially of the European Commission. Family and education Provan was born in Scotland and attended Ardvreck School in Crieff before going to Oundle School, a public school in Northamptonshire. Norman Douglas Somerville Provan (18 December 1932 – 13 October 2021) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach. Also nicknamed "Sticks", he was a second-row forward with the St George Dragons during the first ten of their eleven consecutive premiership-winning years, from 1956 to 1966. Peter Provan (13 August 1936 – 13 May 2010) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played for St. George Dragons, Balmain Tigers and Australia. Provan and his older brother, Norm Provan, are the only pair of brothers to lead grand-final winning teams on victory laps of the Sydney Cricket Ground; Peter Provan with Balmain and Norm Provan with St. George.
