Alexander Protopopov
Alexander Dmitrievich Protopopov (; 18 December 1866 – 27 October 1918) was a Russian publicist and politician who served as Minister of the Interior from September 1916 to February 1917. Protopopov became a leading liberal politician in Russia after the Russian Revolution of 1905 and elected to the State Duma with the Octobrist Party. Protopopov was appointed Minister of the Interior with the support of Empress Alexandra during World War I, but his inexperience and mental instability failed to relieve the effects of the war on Russia and contributed to the decline of the Imperial government. Protopopov remained Minister of the Interior despite attempts to remove him for his policy failures, worsening mental state, and close relationship with Grigori Rasputin until he was forced to resign shortly before the February Revolution. Mikhail Alexeyevich Protopopov (russian: Михаил Алексеевич Протопопов; 1848, Kostroma, Imperial Russia – 16 December 1915) was a Russian Empire journalist, publicist and literary critic. An ardent narodnik, influenced by the ideas of Nikolai Mikhaylovsky and Pyotr Lavrov, Protopopov started late but instantly gained notoriety for his sharp, emotional and opinionated reviews, writing mostly for ''Otechestvennye Zapiski'', but also ''Russkaya Pravda'', ''Slovo'', ''Russkoye Bogatstvo'' and ''Delo''. Oleg Alekseyevich Protopopov (russian: link=no, Оле́г Алексе́евич Протопо́пов; born 16 July 1932) is a former Russian pair skater who represented the Soviet Union. With his wife Ludmila Belousova he is a two-time Olympic champion (1964, 1968) and four-time World champion (1965–1968). In 1979, the pair defected to Switzerland and became Swiss citizens in 1995. They continued to skate at ice shows and exhibitions through their seventies. Career Protopopov started skating relatively late, at age 15, and was coached by Nina Lepninskaya. In 1951, he was drafted into the Baltic Fleet but used each leave to skate. His first partner was Margarita Bogoyavlenskaya, with whom he won the silver medal at the Soviet Championships in 1953. Victor Pavlovich Protopopov ( ua, Протопопов Віктор Павлович; October 22, 1880, Poltava Governorate – 1957, Kiev) was a famous Ukrainian Soviet psychiatrist and, member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The Combined Kiev Bandurist Capella, also known as the Ukrainian State Exemplary Bandurist Capella, was a Ukrainian bandurist ensemble in the Soviet Union which existed from 1935 to 1941, until it was disbanded due to World War II. History The ensemble was formed in February 1935 by combining the musicians of the former Kiev Bandurist Capella, the Poltava Bandurist Capella and the Bandurist Capella of the Kiev Philharmonia to perform at the Decade of Ukrainian Culture in Moscow. This event was organized as a part of a change in policy that happened in 1934, a few months after the liquidation of all of the professional bandurist capellas.
