Prostanthera Gilesii
''Prostanthera gilesii'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae and is endemic to the Mount Canobolas area of New South Wales. It is a small, compact, spreading shrub with aromatic, narrow egg-shaped to elliptical leaves, and white to yellowish white flowers with purple to dark mauve markings inside the petal tube and pale orange markings on the petal lobes. Description ''Prostanthera gilesii'' is a compact, spreading shrub that typically grows to a height of up to and has more or less cylindrical, moderately hairy branchlets. The leaves are aromatic, glossy dark green, paler on the lower side, almost glabrous, narrow egg-shaped to more elliptical, long and wide on a petiole long. The flowers are arranged singly in three or four upper leaf axils with bracteoles about long at the base. George Althofer
George William Francis Althofer (1903–1993) was an Australian botanist, nurseryman, author and poet, with a special interest in the mint-bush genus ''Prostanthera'' as well as other Australian native plants, who founded the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum. Life Althofer was born at Dripstone in the Wellington local government area of Central West New South Wales. He attended school locally, in Dripstone, then Wellington and Mumbil. Althofer grew up working on his father's farm and orchard, becoming an orchardist himself. In 1938 he established a native plant nursery at his property "Nindethana" at Dripstone. Inspired by the American example of the Arnold Arboretum, and assisted by his brother Peter, he lobbied for the establishment of a similar institution with a focus on Australian native plants. Barry Conn
Barry John Conn (Barry Conn, born 1948), is an Australian botanist. He was awarded a Ph.D. from Adelaide University in 1982 for work on ''Prostanthera''. Career Conn's first appointment as a botanist was with the Lae Herbarium in 1974. He then became herbarium curator and a lecturer at the Papua New Guinea Forestry College, Bulolo (1976–1979). He is a scientific advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organisation. In Australia, he has been senior botanist at the National Herbarium of Victoria (1982–1987), and botanist (and principal research scientist) at the National Herbarium of New South Wales (1987–2015).
