Promenade Towers
Promenade Towers is a high-rise apartment complex in Bunker Hill, Los Angeles, California, U.S.. Developed by three Holocaust survivors, it was designed in the modernist architectural style, with palm trees and exotic plants between the towers, and completed in 1985. History The towers were developed by Jona Goldrich, Sol B. Kest and Nathan Shapell, three Holocaust survivors. Their construction cost US$60 million to develop. The three developers had already built the Promenade and the Promenade West Condominiums in Downtown Los Angeles. The towers, built on 4.26 acres in Bunker Hill, were completed in 1985. At the time, they formed the first privately owned apartment complex built in Downtown Los Angeles since 1970. In 1986, tenants included University of Southern California students. Figueroa Street
Figueroa Street is a major north-south street in Los Angeles County, California, spanning from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Wilmington north to Eagle Rock. A short, unconnected continuation of Figueroa Street runs just south of Marengo Drive in Glendale to Chevy Chase Drive in La Cañada Flintridge. Peter Kamnitzer
Peter Kamnitzer (1921–1998) was a German-born American architect. Born in Germany, he emigrated first to Israel and secondly to the United States, where he settled in Los Angeles, California. He was a Professor of Architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). With NASA and General Electric, he invented a graphic design tool used to predict what impact buildings would have on environments. He was a proponent of adding greenery and leisurely facilities to apartment complexes. He designed many residential buildings in Downtown Los Angeles, including public housing. Jona Goldrich
Jona Goldrich (born Jona Goldreich; September 11, 1927 – June 26, 2016) was an American real estate developer and philanthropist. Born in Lviv, he emigrated to Israel in the midst of World War II, where he served in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and worked for a labor union. By the 1950s, he emigrated to the United States, and he became a real estate developer and investor in Los Angeles County. A Holocaust survivor, he supported Jewish causes in Israel and the United States. Early life Jona Goldreich was born in 1927 in Lviv (formerly Poland, present-day Ukraine). He received a degree in mechanical engineering from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Bunker Hill is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. It is part of Downtown Los Angeles. Historically, Bunker Hill was a large hill that separated Downtown Los Angeles from the western end of the city. The hill was tunneled through at Second Street in 1924, and at Third and Fourth Streets.
