Karpagavalli better known by her stage name Priya is an Indian actress who worked on South Indian movies. She was a prominent lead actress during the 1980s and 1990s in Malayalam films. She now works in Tamil television serials in antagonist roles. Background Priya hails from Teynampet, Tamil Nadu. ''Priya'' is a 1970 Indian Malayalam-language film, directed by Madhu and produced by N. P. Abu. The film stars Madhu, Sukumari, Jayabharathi and Adoor Bhasi. The film's score was composed by M. S. Baburaj. It is the first directorial venture of actor Madhu, also the Malayalam debut of Mahendra Kapoor and the only Malayalam film of actress Lilly Chakravarthy. ''Priya'' is a 1978 Indian thriller film directed by S. P. Muthuraman, starring Sridevi in the title role along with Rajinikanth, Aznah Hamid, and Ambareesh. It was simultaneously made in Tamil and Kannada languages. The story is an adaptation of writer Sujatha's novels. The Tamil version was released on 22 December 1978, and the Kannada version on 12 January 1979. It was dubbed and released in Telugu as ''Ajeyudu'' which released on 10 March 1979 and was also dubbed in Hindi as ''Love in Singapore'' in 1983. The soundtrack of this film is recorded using Dolby Stereophonic technology for the first time in Tamil cinema. It was Sridevi's first and only Kannada film as a lead actress. Shibu Mitra is an Indian film director and producer. His career spans more than 40 feature films in Bollywood, and his movies were particularly popular in the late 1970s and through out 1980s, the most successful among them being Shankar Dada, '' Aakhri Goli'', Paanch Qaidi, '' Ilzaam'', '' Aag Hi Aag'', ''Paap Ki Duniya'', '' Insaaf Main Karoongaa'', Maan Gaye Ustaad and Durgaa.
