Prix Iris For Best Original Music
The Prix Iris for Best Original Music (french: Prix Iris de la meilleure musique originale) is an annual film award, presented by Québec Cinéma as part of its Prix Iris awards program, to honour the year's best music in films made within the Cinema of Quebec. Unlike some other film awards, which present separate categories for scores and songs, the Prix Iris only presents a single music category inclusive of both types of film music. Until 2016, it was known as the Jutra Award for Best Original Music in memory of influential Quebec film director Claude Jutra. Following the withdrawal of Jutra's name from the award, the 2016 award was presented under the name Québec Cinéma. Ned Bouhalassa (born 25 August 1962 in Le Mans, France) is a composer of film scores, television scores, and electroacoustic music. Bouhalassa is a Canadian citizen, and has been living in Montreal since 1967. In 1993, he began composing television soundtracks, and has been writing music for image full-time since 1997. James Gelfand
James Gelfand (born April 3, 1959) is a Canadian jazz pianist who has written scores for film and television. Early life Gelfand was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada into a large Jewish family. He is the great-grandson of Jacob Pascal, founder of J. Pascal's Hardware and Furniture. He is married with two children. He began classical piano training at the age of four. During his teens, Gelfand diverged into jazz and other styles. Performing and competing at jazz festivals throughout North America and Europe, he has won a number of prestigious awards. Michel Donato (born August 25, 1942) is a Canadian jazz double bass player, composer, and singer and pianist. According to the ''Canadian Encyclopedia'', " s association with both scarPeterson and illEvans marks Donato as one of Canada's foremost jazz bassists...". He was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2007. Career Early years He grew up in a musical family, as his grandfather was a violinist and his father, Roland, was a saxophone, flute and piano player and dance band leader.
