Pringle, Texas
Pringle is an unincorporated community in northern Hutchinson County, Texas, United States. The Pringle-Morse Consolidated Independent School District serves area students. Geography Pringle is at the intersection of State Highway 136 and Farm to Market Road 1598, on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad nine miles north of Stinnett in northern Hutchinson County. History The community began in 1929 when the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railroad built between Stinnett and Hitchland. The Pringle post office opened in 1929, and a school was organized that year. William H. Pringle, for whom the community is named, donated land for a school building. By 1933, Pringle had three businesses and a population of twenty. The post office closed ''circa'' 1947, and the school was consolidated with the Morse schools in 1977. The population rose to sixty in 1947, dropped to forty-six in 1968, and has been estimated at forty from 1974 to 2000. References Unincorporat ... Hutchinson County, Texas
Hutchinson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 20,617. Its county seat is Stinnett. The county was created in 1876, but not organized until 1901. It is named for Andrew Hutchinson, an early Texas attorney. Hutchinson County comprises the Borger, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Amarillo-Borger, TX Combined Statistical Area. It is located in the northern portion of the Texas Panhandle. Texas State Highway 136
State Highway 136 (SH 136) is a Texas state highway that runs from the Texas–Oklahoma border south of Guymon, Oklahoma to Amarillo. The route was designated on January 23, 1929 from Amarillo to Oklahoma. On March 19, 1930, the route was truncated to Stinnett, with the portion north of Stinnett transferred to SH 117. On February 4, 1941, the section of SH 136 from the Moore/Potter County Line to Stinnett was cancelled. On September 22, 1942, the route was extended east to Borger. The highway was extended to the Oklahoma border on November 21, 1963, replacing most of FM 278 and all of FM 2216. Stinnett, Texas
Stinnett ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Hutchinson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,881 at the 2010 census, a decrease from 1,936 at the 2000 census. History Stinnett was established in 1926 by A.P. (Ace) Borger, better known as the founder of Borger, a larger community in the county, and his brother Lester Andrew (Pete) Borger. In September 1926, Stinnett replaced Plemons, which later became a ghost town, as the Hutchinson County seat. The courthouse, built in 1927 in the Spanish Renaissance style, was financed from petroleum money. The structure, designed by the architect W.F. Townes, consists of brown brick and cut white stone.
