Princess Antoinette of Saxe-Altenburg (17 April 1838 – 13 October 1908) was a princess of Saxe-Altenburg by birth and Duchess of Anhalt by marriage. Biography Antoinette was the second child of Prince Eduard of Saxe-Altenburg (1804-1852) from his first marriage with Amalie (1815-1841), daughter of Karl, Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. She married on 22 April 1854 in Altenburg the future Friedrich I, Duke of Anhalt (1831-1904). The marriage was for dynastic reasons and Antoinette married one of the richest German princes. On the occasion of the marriage was coined a commemorative medal. Karl, Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (20 February 1785 – 11 March 1853) was the reigning Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen from 1831 to 1848. In 1833, Karl summoned a constitutional assembly (''Landtag'') and promulgated a constitutional charter as the law in his lands. He founded a hospital for his subjects, and had the ''Ständehaus'' built on the modern ''Leopoldsplatz'' in Sigmaringen (today owned by the Hohenzollerische Landesbank). Karl also removed the burden of serfdom and various other medieval laws. During the German revolutions of 1848–1849 Karl abdicated in favor of his son, Karl Anton, on 27 August 1848. Charles II (Charles Louis Frederick; 10 October 1741 – 6 November 1816) was ruler of the state of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1794 until his death. Frederick, Duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen (29 April 1763 in Hildburghausen – 29 September 1834 in Altenburg), was duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen (1780–1826) and duke of Saxe-Altenburg (1826–1834). Günther Sizzo, Prince of Schwarzburg (3 June 1860 – 24 March 1926) was the head of the House of Schwarzburg and pretender to the principalities of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen.
