Joseph Hubert Priestley
Joseph Hubert Priestley (; 5 October 188331 October 1944) was a British lecturer in botany at University College, Bristol, and professor of botany and pro-vice-chancellor at the University of Leeds. He has been described as a gifted teacher who attracted many graduate research students to Leeds. He was the eldest child of a Tewkesbury head teacher and the elder brother of Raymond Priestley, the British geologist and Antarctic explorer. He was educated at his father's school and University College, Bristol. In 1904, he was appointed a lecturer in botany at the University College and published research on photosynthesis and the effect of electricity on plants. He was elected a fellow of the Linnean Society, and in 1910, he was appointed consulting botanist to the Bath and West and Southern Counties Society. Arthur Priestley
Sir Arthur Alexander Priestley (9 November 1865 – 10 April 1933) was an English Liberal Party politician and cricketer. After three unsuccessful candidacies he held a seat in the House of Commons from 1900 to 1918. At cricket, he played for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and took part in and later led overseas touring sides between 1894 and 1897. Early life Priestley was born in Kensington, London, the youngest surviving son of Briggs Priestley (1831–1907), from Apperley Bridge near Bradford. His father was a mill-owner in Bradford, and served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pudsey from 1895 to 1900. His brother William was MP for Bradford East from 1906 to 1918. Robert Priestley (cricketer)
Robert Hugh Priestley (23 November 1911 – 30 November 2007) was an English first-class cricketer. Priestly was born at Maida Vale to Hugh Priestley and his wife, Elizabeth Grainger Hall. He was educated at Winchester College. He made one appearance in first-class cricket for the Free Foresters against Cambridge University at Cambridge in 1932. Batting twice in the match, Priestley was dismissed without scoring by Rodney Rought-Rought in the Free Forester's first-innings, while in their second-innings he was dismissed by the same bowler for 16 runs. He married Mary Hermia, daughter of Sir George Menteth Boughey, 9th Bt in 1935, with the couple having three children. John Priestley (19 August 1900 – January 1980) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for Johnstone, Chelsea, Grimsby Town, St Johnstone and Cowdenbeath. Playing career Born in Johnstone, Priestley started his career with hometown club Johnstone F.C. in Scotland before moving south of the border to join Chelsea in May 1920 at the age of nineteen. Gerald Priestley (2 March 1931 - 21 January 2020) was a former footballer who played as a winger in the Football League in the 1950s and 1960s. He was born in Halifax. He started with Nottingham Forest but did not play any League games for them and moved to Exeter City in 1953, before transferring to Grimsby Town. He made over 100 League appearances for Grimsby, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1958. He was at Palace for two years, and during his time there scored two senior goals for them. Donald Lacey Priestley (; 28 July 188730 October 1917) was an English cricketer who played for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club from 1909 to 1910. He made his debut in the County Championship against Sussex at the County Ground, Hove. In May 1910, he scored fiftyone runs against Hampshire at the County Ground, Southampton. His final first class appearance for Gloucestershire was against Worcestershire at the War Memorial Ground, Stourbridge. Dennis Priestley (born 16 July 1950) is an English former professional darts player. He has won two world championships, and was the first player to win both the BDO and WDC (now PDC) world championships, in 1991 and 1994 respectively. He is nicknamed "The Menace", after the cartoon character Dennis the Menace, and reflects this by wearing red and black, and using red and black flights. Akeem Sayeed Priestley (born 13 April 1985) is a Jamaican professional footballer who plays for Canadian club Master's Futbol as a winger.
