President Of The Federated States Of Micronesia
The president of the Federated States of Micronesia is the head of state and government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The FSM president, by virtue of his or her office, is the head of the FSM Cabinet and is in charge of the administration and operations of the National Government. The president is assisted by the vice-president, both of whom are elected by the FSM Congress from among the at-large members to serve for four-year terms. The current and ninth president of the FSM is David Panuelo, who replaced Peter Christian on 11 May 2019. Qualifications According to Article 10 of the FSM Constitution, people who fulfil the following requirements are eligible to serve as president. * Must be a Senator at-Large in the FSM Congress serving for four-year terms. * Must be a citizen of the FSM by birth. * Must be a resident of the FSM for at least 15 years. David Panuelo
David W. Panuelo (born April 13, 1964) is a Micronesian politician who is serving as the president of the Federated States of Micronesia. His term started on May 11, 2019. Biography Panuelo was born on the island of Pohnpei, where he completed much of his early education. He went to college in the United States, earning a BA in political science from Eastern Oregon University in 1987. In 1988 he was appointed as the deputy ambassador for the Micronesian embassy in Fiji where he served until 1993. In 1993 he was appointed to serve at the Micronesian Mission to the United Nations, a position he held until 1996. In 1997, Panuelo was named the director of the Department of Resource Management and Development for the State of Pohnpei, a position he held until 2001. From 2003 to 2010, Panuelo resigned from government work to work in the private business sector. Bailey Olter (27 March 1932, Mwoakilloa, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia – 16 February 1999) was a Micronesian political figure. The High Commissioner of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands was an official who administered the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI), a United Nations trusteeship in the Pacific Ocean under the administration of the United States, between 1947 and 1994. The territory consisted of islands captured by America during World War II, prior to which they had been part of the Empire of Japan as the South Seas Mandate, within the Japanese colonial empire. Emanuel "Manny" Mori (born December 25, 1949) is a Micronesian politician who served as President of the Federated States of Micronesia from 11 May 2007 to 11 May 2015. Early life Mori was born on the island of Fefan and attended and graduated from Xavier High School. Following his graduation in 1969, Mori went to the University of Guam. Mori proceeded to graduate in 1973 with a BA in Business Management. Joseph John "Joe" Urusemal (born March 19, 1952) is a Micronesian political figure who served as the sixth President of the Federated States of Micronesia from 2003 until 2007. Urusemal is married to former First Lady Olania Latileilam, who is from Satawal. The couple have four children: B.J., Tarsis, Craig and Elenita. Early life Urusemal was born on the island of Woleai in the State of Yap. He attended secondary school on the island of Chuuk (then called Truk) at Xavier High School, a Jesuit institution. Jacob Nena (10 October 1941 – 6 July 2022) was a Micronesian politician who served as the fourth President of the Federated States of Micronesia from 1996 to 1999. Nena was born in Lelu, Kosrae. He gratuated with a BA from the College of Guam and later graduated with an MA degree from University of Hawaii at Manoa. He served as deputy district administrator of Kosrae from 1970 to 1977. He became the first elected Governor of Kosrae from 1979 to 1983.
