The Head of the Republic of Dagestan is the highest official and the head of the executive power of the Republic of Dagestan. The Head is Dagestan’s Head of State and Head of Government. The Head of Dagestan’s duty is to ensure compliance with the Russian Constitution and federal laws and the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Dagestan, as well as the equality of nations and the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, and the preservation of the unity and territorial integrity of the Republic of Dagestan. The Head of the Republic can not be a person aged under 30. The term of office is four years. The position is appointed by the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan. Sergey Alimovich Melikov (russian: Сергей Алимович Меликов, lez, Меликов Сергей Алим хва; born 12 September 1965), is a Russian statesman and military leader, who has served as the 5th Head of the Republic of Dagestan since 14 October 2021. Melikov was a Senator from Stavropol Krai, from 2019 to 2020, representing from the executive power in office. He was First Deputy Director of the Federal Service of the Russian National Guard, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian National Guard troops from 2016 to 2019.
