President And Trustees Of Colby College
The President and Trustees of Colby College is an 501(c) organization which is the governing body of Colby College, a private liberal arts college located in Waterville, Maine, United States. As of 2017, the president is David A. Greene, and the chair of Board is Eric S. Rosengren. The organization provides general supervision of the administration and property of the College, including appointment of the President. Structure The bylaws of the corporation provide that membership shall consist of the current President, and not fewer than twenty-four nor more than thirty-five other Trustees. Not fewer than six nor more than nine of said Trustees shall be elected by the Colby College Alumni Association. The term of office of each Trustee lasts five years. The corporation meets three times annually. Both the faculty and the student body may elect two members each as representatives to attend meetings of the corporation, but not as voting members. Beniah Longley Whitman
Rev. Beniah Longley Whitman (also spelled Benaiah; November 21, 1862 – November 27, 1911) was the 11th president of Colby College, and later Columbian College (now George Washington University). Life Beniah Longley Whitman was born in Wilmot, Nova Scotia on November 21, 1962. He prepared for college at the Worcester Academy in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brown University in the class of 1887, with a B.A. degree, and received an M.A. degree in 1890. He received the honorary degree of D.D. from Bowdoin College in 1894; the degree of LL.D. from Howard University in 1899, and from Furman University in 1906. He was lecturer in Bucknell University, 1900–07; trustee of Newton Theological Institution (now the Andover Newton Theological School), 1894-02; and of the Crozer Theological Seminary, 1901–08; President of the American Baptist Historical Society, 1900–07. Herbert Elijah Wadsworth (October 25, 1868 - August 25, 1937) was a businessman, politician, and philanthropist in Winslow, Maine. He was president of the oilcloth company Wadsworth and Woodman. Personal Wadsworth was born on October 25, 1868, in Livermore Falls, Maine, to Elijah Wadsworth and Ruth Ann Record. He was educated first at Hebron Academy, then at the Coburn Classical Institute. Percival Bonney
Percival Bonney (September 14, 1842 – August 4, 1906) was a Maine Superior Court judge. Personal Bonney was born in Minot, Maine, and was the only child of William Lowell and Adeline French Bonney. He attended Hebron Academy and graduated from Waterville College (now Colby College) in 1863. He married Elizabeth H. Bray on August 5, 1864, and had two daughters, Adeline L. and Helen B. Career Bonney began his career as a clerk at the United States Department of the Treasury from 1863 to 1865, then studied law in the office of J.H. Drummond in Portland, Maine. Josiah Hayden Drummond
Josiah Hayden Drummond (August 20, 1827 – October 25, 1902) was an American attorney and politician. He served as Maine Attorney General from 1860 to 1863. Personal J.H. Drummond was born to Clark and Cynthia (Blackwell) Drummond in Winslow, Maine. He attended Vassalboro Academy and graduated from Colby College in 1846. He married Elzada Rollins (Bean) on December 10, 1850, and had three daughters and one son. Career He entered politics as a Democrat, but when the Republican Party was formed he joined it. Abner Coburn
Abner Coburn (March 22, 1803 – January 4, 1885) was the 30th Governor of Maine from 1863 to 1864 and a prominent individual in Skowhegan, Maine until his death. Early years Coburn was born on a farm in Old Canaan (later renamed to Skowhegan). He was raised with Puritan values and worked on his family farm from a young age which lead to him being known as an exceedingly industrious man. Career Coburn's family were Federalists and he cast his first vote for president in 1824 for John Quincy Adams. David Greene (born 1963) is the 20th President of Colby College, a liberal arts college in Waterville, Maine founded in 1813. Greene was installed as president on July 1, 2014, and succeeded William Adams, who had been president since 2000. William Drea "Bro" Adams is an American educator and advocate for the humanities. He was the tenth Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 2014 to 2017.
