Premio Verziere
The Premio Verziere is a Group 3 flat horse race in Italy open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at Milan over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in October. History The event was formerly classed at Listed level, and it used to be held in May or June. It was promoted to Group 3 status and renamed the Premio Paolo Mezzanotte in 2004. For a period it was open to fillies aged four or older. The race reverted to its previous title, the Premio Verziere, in 2009. From this point it was staged in October, and open to fillies aged three and up. The title "Premio Paolo Mezzanotte" is currently assigned to a different race, a Listed event formerly known as the Premio FIA-BEF. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100-120 lb., and physically fit. They are typically self-employed and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer and a percentage of the horse's winnings. Capannelle Racecourse
Capannelle Racecourse ( it, Ippodromo delle Capannelle) is a horse racing venue in Rome, Italy. The course was constructed in 1881, and it was rebuilt in 1926 to a design by Paolo Vietti-Violi. It was recently the venue of two Group 1 flat races – the Premio Lydia Tesio (downgraded to Group 2 in 2019) and the Premio Roma (downgraded to Group 2 in 2017). The track also stages the most valuable flat race in Italy, the Derby Italiano, which was downgraded to Group 2 status in 2009. Umberto Rispoli
Umberto Rispoli (born 31 August 1988 in San Severino Marche, Italy) is a horse racing jockey. He commenced his apprenticeship in 2005 and graduated to the senior ranks in 2010. He was a member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club until December 2019 when he moved his tack to Southern California. As of July 2022, Rispoli has accrued over $21 million in purses and won 297 races. Early life Rispoli was born 31 August 1988 in San Severino Marche, Italy, but his family is originally from Napoli.
