Premakeerthi De Alwis
Samaraweera Mudalige Don Premakeerthi de Alwis (3 June 1947 – 31 July 1989 as si, ප්රේමකීර්ති ද අල්විස්), popularly known as Premakeerthi de Alwis, was a Sri Lankan radio and television broadcaster and lyricist. Considered as an iconic figure in Sri Lankan radio television history, he was assassinated during the 1987–89 JVP Insurrection at the age of 42. Early life and family De Alwis was born on 3 June 1947 in Colombo, Ceylon. He was the second child of Simon de Alwis, a railway employee from Maradana. He was educated at Maradana Maligakande Maha Vidyalaya and Ananda College where he co-edited the school newspaper ''Dhamma Jayanthi'' and compiled the ''Anandaya'' magazine in 1965. In 1961 he unsuccessfully auditioned to be a singer on Radio Ceylon. Kala Suri Alhaj Kareem Mohideen Baig ( si, මොහිදින් බෙග්, ar, محي الدين بيك; 5 December 1919 – 4 November 1991), popularly as Mohideen Baig, was a Sri Lankan musician. One of the most influential singers in Sinhala music, Baig is known particularly for his Buddhist devotional music. He is a Muslim who moved to Sri Lanka from Salem in Tamil Nadu, but of a Hyderabadi Muslim origin. He was considered a highly influential multicultural figure in the country's arts history. ''Ceylon Today'' is an English language Sri Lankan daily newspaper published by Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited. It was founded in 2011 and is published from Colombo. Its sister newspaper is the ''Mawbima''. Ceylon Newspapers (Private) Limited is owned by politician Tiran Alles Tiran Alles, MP is a Sri Lankan businessman and politician. Homagama is a town in the Colombo District, Sri Lanka, about south-east of Colombo. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP; ) is a Marxist–Leninist communist party and a former militant organization in Sri Lanka. The movement was involved in two armed uprisings against the government of Sri Lanka: once in 1971 (SLFP), and another in 1987–89 ( UNP). The motive for both uprisings was to establish a socialist state. The JVP was initially a small organisation that became a well-organised party that could influence mainstream politics. Its members campaigned openly for the left-wing coalition government, United Front. Following their disillusion with the coalition, they started an insurrection against the Dominion of Ceylon in early 1971, which intensified following the ban on the party. Deshapremi Janatha Vyaparaya (abbreviated as DJV) (දේශප්රේමී ජනතා ව්යාපාරය; Patriotic People's Movement) was a militant organisation in Sri Lanka. It was widely considered to be the military branch of the Marxism–Leninism, Marxist–Leninist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and had been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Sri Lankan government. M. L. D. S. Priyadarshi Suriyasena Liyanage ( Sinhala:ප්රියා සූරියසේන: born 27 October 1949), popularly as Priya Suriyasena, is a Sri Lankan singer.
