Predicament (2010 Film)
''Predicament'' is a 2010 comedy horror film based on the 1975 novel by Ronald Hugh Morrieson and starring Jemaine Clement of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords plus Tim Finn of the Finn Brothers. Filmed in Hawera and Eltham in Taranaki, it was the last Morrieson novel to be adapted for cinema; his other three novels were filmed in the 1980s. Plot Predicament is ''a powerful and disturbing account of the psychological fantasy world of adolescence with the familiar small-town setting'' of Morrieson's writing, so is a coming-of-age novel and a crime comedy. Naïve teenager Cedric Williamson is involved with two older criminally inclined misfits in photographing and blackmailing amorous couples, and ends up an accomplice to murder. Jason Stutter is a New Zealand-based motion picture, television and commercial director. He has directed a number of short movies, including ''Blood Suckers'' and ''Careful With That Axe'', the latter winning the Golden Spike Award for best short film at the film festival in Valladolid, Spain. Frances Rose McIver (born 10 October 1988) is a New Zealand actress. Peter Mochrie (born 23 March 1959), is an Australian actor whose career spans over forty years in the industry, primarily featuring in television soap opera's, he has also worked in New Zealand, where he spent six years as Dr. Callum McKay in the TV serial ''Shortland Street''. John Dunmore (born 6 August 1923) is a New Zealand academic, historian, author, playwright, and publisher. Biography Dunmore was born in Trouville-sur-Mer, France, lived in Jersey under German Occupation during World War II, and then in England, where he received a BA from the University of London. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1950. He completed a PhD under historian J. C. Beaglehole at Victoria University of Wellington in 1962, studying the French contribution to the exploration of the Pacific Ocean in the 18th century. He was Professor of French, Head of the Department of Modern Languages, and Dean of Humanities at Massey University, from which he retired in 1985. Dunmore's main field of history is the exploration of the Pacific, particularly by French navigators.
