Pratunam
Pratunam, written as Pratu Nam ( th, ประตูน้ำ, ), is an intersection and neighborhood in Bangkok. It is located in Thanon Phaya Thai sub-district, Ratchathewi district. It is the intersection of Phetchaburi, Ratchadamri and Ratchaprarop roads. The next intersection on Ratchaprarop side is Makkasan. The term "Pratunam" means "water gate", as at one time there was a water gate within nearby Sa Pathum Palace, which commonly was known as ''Pratunam Wang Sa Pathum'' or ''Pratunam Sa Pathum'' (ประตูน้ำวังสระปทุม, ประตูน้ำสระปทุม). This water gate was built by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in the year 1905 to drain water from the Khlong Saen Saep (Saen Saep canal) to distribute to the people, both for agriculture, and water levelling for boating and rafting. Pratunam Market () is one of Bangkok's major markets, and is Thailand's largest clothing market. The name ''Pratunam'' means 'water gate'. Overview The market includes retail stores and outdoor stalls, the latter aimed at tourists. It is at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi Roads in the Ratchathewi District. This is may be the cheapest market for buying clothing, , fabrics, and textiles in central Bangkok, while the Chatuchak Weekend Market probably is the low price leader. Other merchandise includes watches, handicrafts, and more. Khlong Saen Saep Boat Service
The Khlong Saen Saep boat service is a water bus operating on the Saen Saep Canal in Bangkok through the city's commercial districts. The Khlong Saen Saep boat service has been in operation since 1990. The 18 kilometre route is served by 100 boats of 40-50 seats. It operates from 05:30 to 20:30 daily on weekdays (to 19:00 on weekends). Prices are 8-20 baht, depending on distance traveled. The service carries about 60,000 passengers per day. It is run by a company called Family Transport. In 2022, an extension of the old route was started. 12 new electric boats work on the route from Wat Sriboonreung to Minburi district office. Phetchaburi Road ( th, ถนนเพชรบุรี, ) is a main road of Bangkok. It starts at Yommarat Intersection near Yommarat Railway Halt and Uruphong Intersection and ends at Khlong Tan Intersection, passing through four districts, Dusit, Ratchathewi, Huai Khwang, and Suan Luang. The Platinum Fashion Mall is a five billion baht (100 million euro) shopping mall in Pratunam, Bangkok, Thailand, which specializes in fashion clothes and accessories retail and wholesale. Makkasan
Makkasan ( th, มักกะสัน, ) is the name of an intersection and the surrounding neighbourhood in Bangkok's Ratchathewi district. It is one of the 180 sub-districts in Bangkok. Makkasan Intersection is divided into two closely located intersections. One is the meeting point of Ratchaprarop Road, Chaturathit Road, Si Ayutthaya Road, and Soi Ratchaprarop 10 or Soi Mo Leng, and is known variously as Makkasan, Mo Leng or Ratchaprarop Intersection. The other is the intersection of Ratchaprarop Road and Nikhom Makkasan Road, named Nikhom Makkasan intersection. The area is considered one of the most prone to traffic jams in Bangkok, especially during rush hour.
